Hi currently in the market for a 2009/2010 boxster S and looking for some advice please from Porsche owners

for those that have it - what is the PDK gearbox like and are there any known reliability issues

what is deemed excessive mileage ? - I have seen one at OPC with the spec I want but with 50k on it - is a 60 plate

They are looking for proper money £29497 so how would the mileage effect the price ? I looked at the free valuation on confused.com which gives me the impression is £2500 over price - Interested to think what views are i.e as I would put in an offer but don't want to seem a chancer

what should I expect this car to have had done service wise ?

minor service
major service
pads and disks

anything else ? does the PDK need servicing ?

many thanks

PDK will dull the drive and 8k is deemed as average miles pa on a Porsche.

50k miles is close to needing a shock over haul and new bushes etc to feel at it's best.

Disks pads etc should have been done maybe twice already.
May also need to look at coil packs, condensers .

I would not touch at car at that age with 50k miles on it's double the ave so when you come to sell it will be even harder.

Too heavy on the miles in my opinion.

Another one will come up.

A year ago, I paid just under 33k at an OPC for a 5,000 mile PDK in perfect condition, including a hardtop and Sport Design wheel with paddles - very nice with PDK.
It has the OPC two year warranty but hasn't needed a thing so far, so I will not renew it.

If you commute, the PDK is fabulous, for a weekend only car, pick a manual.

Make sure you get heated seats and rear parking sensors are a big plus.

The 987.2 is a lovely car though I will be getting a 981 GTS, or whatever at some point.

30k for 50k mile Boxster is hilarious.

The depreciation will be so high that you could finance are far better car for less.

I wouldn't even pay 20k.

I sold my 10 plate manual box s last year with just 9000 miles and 18 months porsche warranty for 25k, exactly the same price I paid for it 6 months earlier with 7000 miles on it, that one is seriously overpriced!!

Way way way over priced.

See my thread ("Conflicted" was my old name) for my 09 987.2S purchased 3mths ago for 7k less: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=136...

987.2 like most modern Porsche are miles and spec dependant.

£30k should be a very nice low miles car with a good spec.

as suggested - will be giving this a miss.

I have up to late 20's to spend and don't want to be buying something too run in.

I was looking at the PDK's as with my limited knowledge it seems that the sport plus can give the car a different character. I will be using it as a daily so liked the fact that it can change the throttle sensitivity if I wanted.

will wait until a lower mileage one comes along.

much appreciated

I've been looking at 4-year old 3.4 PDK Boxsters with around 40k miles and these can be had from respectable dealers for around £26k. An OPC will expect £5-6k more. My current 986 was about the same but with a lot less miles.

Mileage would not put me off if it was a special spec. car (ceramics, buckets, paint to sample etc.) if its not one of these cars then I would run at that price.

If it is a special car then worth a haggle.

The mileage in itself will not be an issue, the car could be in fantastic condition.

But they are asking 30k! They're not much more new, especially if you factor in a good finance deal.

In 2 years with another 20k miles on it, what will it be worth? 15 tops surely? Thats an unacceptably high ownership cost in my view.

The Sport button changes the character enough, Sport + is too much, except if you want to play with the launch control. I have not since I value my car.

For a commute/daily driver the PDK is brilliant, especially with the Sport Design wheel with paddles (a must).
