Just about to put my Chim back on the road after its loooong sleep so its a few years since I insured it for the road.

Its a 4 ltr with big brakes, 17" wheels and a rollcenter roll cage.

1996 just had a full body of restoration so value say 15k

driver is 47 in midlands wife to drive as well 46
both have other cars

5k miles inc 1.5k business miles ( so I can the the chim if the weathers nice)

Classic line have come back with 295 inc glass and breakdown cover 250 excess ( 75 on windscreen)

That looks reasonable Is that about what others are paying or should I be looking at other places

Cheers

I use Classicline and that sounds good.

I paid £215 for a standard 4.0 Chimaera last year, and only 1500 miles allowed. I'm over 50, but having only a drive to park it on may have ramped it up a bit.

I changed the wheels to 17" for a couple of months last Spring and they just noted it, no increase in premium!

I've got to do mine next month too. What sort of mileage are people saying they do, ramps up a few quid after 3000 miles doesn't it?

I think there is a ceiling to the max amount of miles per year on a classic car insurance.
Say 5K miles

Well worth shopping around using the Insurance wiki at the top of the Chimaera section.

I have declared all the modifications in full and car is parked under a car port. Limited to 3,000 miles a year.

I was with MSM last year and renewal just come through last week for next year. £417.23. eek
Online quote from Footman James came in at £323.17.
Similar quote from Classicline was the best at £290, a saving of £127 so worth filling in the form.

Just for interest Manning UK told me they would be in touch - never heard from them. No good if you need to make a claim.....
I didn't try A Plan, Adrian Flux, Heritage Classic or Sky Insurance (no online form for quotes) so can't comment on them.

Do bear in mind your location when playing the "his is a cheaper quote than mine" game.

I went with Footman James, they insisted on a thatcham alarm or immobiliser . ( as did flux who were more money)
Mine came out to £325 with £100 excess for 3000 miles but no business mileage.
Many models already have a thatcham approved immobiliser as standard. My 2000 model does. Depending on the car age, it may have fallen off the 'approved' list.

I've got my Griff and my Lotus Elan+2 with R.H. on the one policy for under £300. I went with them because if the car is written off then they pay the money but you keep the salvage at no charge. No idea how good they are with a claim, anyone with experience?

Classicline are underwritten by Equity Red Star on my policy at any rate. You may not like the comments in the link: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews112963.html

I have been with ERS previously with other cars and no problems but also, crucially, no claims. Hopefully, Classicline will look after things better?

I have three cars with ERS via Classicline, so I called Classicline to put my mind at rest. They say they have nothing but good service from ERS, and that the Review Centre is not typical of customer experiences.
They pointed out that all companies get bad reviews, as, unlike hotel review sites like Trip Advisor, where you get a much more balance spread of reviews, people only tend to comment on insurance companies when they are disgruntled, and that dissatisfaction can not only come from a bad or slow outcome to their claims, but also from the need for further checking etc - claims sometimes have to be investigated when the two parties' versions of events differ, or the insured has been economical with the truth regarding his/her past driving record etc.
I am reassured, but don't plan to go and crash my TVR just to test the claims procedure hehe

5.0 TVR Chimaera with upgrades, agreed value insured c. 20k with Footman James, 5k miles a year, stored in locked garage, cat 1 alarm and immobilizer, both me and GF (32 and 29) allowed to drive (no business use), membership of TVRCC, and other car in household comes out at c. £180 per year (central London). For reference, my 110 Land Rover parked on-street with 10k miles and agreed value of 10k is c. £220 p.a. to insure. Overall pretty happy with FJsmile
