I made the mistake of buying a cheap WiFi CCTV camera from Amazon that allows you to view the live footage on your phone and supposedly records to an SD card within the camera. The live footage through the app works fine but it's temperamental when it comes to viewing back the footage and corrupts SD cards for fun. I've tried numerous SD cards with no luck.

Basically, it's not much use.

Does anyone know of any decent 1/2 camera systems that use WiFi to connect to a DVR which I could then connect to my router (by ethernet cable)? Ideally the DVR would have a HDMI connection so I could playback through my main TV. The option to view via smartphones/iPads would be good too.

This seems to have all of the functions but is it too good (and too cheap) to be true? I don't really need four cameras either... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GJ45J56/ref=wl_it_d...

Cheers

Have a look at this topic one of our own PH'ers runs a CCTV business, and by all accounts his gear is top notch.

I have an Arlo system. Simple and very effective.

I've just seen an advert for a Nest indoor CCTV camera which has the option of saving either 10 days or 30 days to the cloud.
From £8 a month which I'm guessing would be 10'days storage.
And a free trial if you want to give it a go.

This isn't a recommendation because I haven't tried a Nest device, but I thought I'd post it in case you haven't seen it.

Thanks for the replies.

The cloud is indeed an option - a pretty good sounding option actually.

Will check the link above and look into Arlo.

Cheers.

I installed a Swann system, 2 camera's and a DVR. Its not wireless though but it only took a couple of hours to get the thing setup and run the cables into the house. It cost £135 off ebay, can view it from my phone (works really well) and has pretty much been fit and forget.

The Arlo Q Plus camera looks great. The only trouble is, it's not weather proof. Which is a shame as I like the fact that it can save footage to an SD card if there's any network issues. Not sure if I'm keen on their battery powered options.

The Nest Outdoor camera looks like a decent system but you've got to pay them £80.00 a year for cloud storage. Nest is winning so far.

Nest cams are great. I have two indoor ones and the video quality both day and night is very good. The cloud service and app/website just work.

However the subscription costs will mount up if you want multiple cameras.
