997 do they do a 4S
Discussion
Hi, i am selling (or trading) my carrera 4 996 for a 997, bit confused as seen advertised a 4s ? Are these wide bodied as did not look wider ? also only seen 1 carrera 4 in 997 model? Are the 4 wheel drive ones more desireable than 2 wheel drive ? i brought my 4 because it was first one & bit worried about them be a bit tail happy, but think now will go for 2 wheel drive but like wide bodied look ? I have budget of £10k & should get £10k for my car so about £20k total.

Yes, the 997 came in a 4S version as well as 4. Both are "wide-bodied" compared to the 2/2S. I think its 22mm extra at the rear.
The 4wd is very different from the one in the 996.
You loose some luggage space vs the 2/2S.
On my 996 you can see the diffrence in 4s & normal 4, so the 997 is not as noticable ? are the 4 more expensive to buy?The 4wd is very different from the one in the 996.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but can you really get a decent 997 for £20K?
Having recently bought a 996C4S for the same budget the only 997's I saw for sale at that price were CAT C/D, had some sort of "Minor" engine issue or had more miles on them than the Millennium Falcon.
Tread carefully!
Yes about £20 k will get one, i dont know about 4s but seen some nice 2S for £18 k , got good porsche guy who checks them out with about 80k on clock, there are some nice on here for sale, there is a 4s & he says wide body , so that got me thinking as love the look...Having recently bought a 996C4S for the same budget the only 997's I saw for sale at that price were CAT C/D, had some sort of "Minor" engine issue or had more miles on them than the Millennium Falcon.

I've actually just put a deposit down for one.
Quite rare as they were £5k more than Carerra 2S. They're actually 44mm wider, not 22mm. It is the same body as the Turbo.

good luck with your new car, so jel... is the 997 called a C4S & that will mean 4 wheel drive & wide body? Are all 4 wheel drives wide body? I dont really need 4 wheel drive, but just love the look? they dont do 2s in wide body then?Quite rare as they were £5k more than Carerra 2S. They're actually 44mm wider, not 22mm. It's pretty simple
2
2S more power, bit more kit
4 four wheel drive
4S more power, bit more kit, four wheel drive
Both the 4wd and S cost more
997 C4 v C4S not as noticeable as 996 as both 997 get the wide body and the front end, suspension and brakes are the same, but the S has quad exhaust and different standard alloys. Only the later (and not in your budget) C4S gets the too skinny red stripe
thanks understand now ! when you say more power is that the 3.8 engine compared to 3.6?2

None have as standard, but you are right to want one as it costs double to retrofit
S has 4 round exhaust vs 2 flat ovals for non S, regardless of 2wd or 4wd
Sport exhaust was a pricey option on all of them, £1300 ish IIRC
Sports exhaust is four exhausts with smaller inner two like this
Yes it's switchable
adam thanks, i have a 996 & never had exhaust, so i had a company called haywood & scott do i thing called a "gundo hack" or something? Mine cost £350 & have to say , it sounds awsome! could this be done to a 997 4 s? the one i am after is for sale on here but dont have exhaust, everything else is perfect for me (including my max budget of £20 k ish.) Yes, it can be done, I've had it done on my 997 C4S. Excellent value 'mod' and changes the car.

Different company, used these guys in Hayes/London. Job was done ok, I went for the 1.5" pipe as I didn't want it too loud.
