Would someone be so good as to help me find the recipe for the firewall steering shaft support modification upgrade to a bearing from the nylon bushing?

I've got the Triumph TR7/TR7 steering column.

Thanks!

If you have the triangular section steering column (Ford Granada) like mine on a Series 2 350i;

Get in touch with David Gerald TVR and ask for an upgraded bulkhead steering bearing and housing for a TVR S Series, this can easily be made to fit a wedge. I actually got mine from TVR Car Parts but DG has taken over the stock so they should have them. I think it was about £25. It's got a nicely made ally housing and comes with a new triangular centre bush but running in a proper metal bearing race.

Take the steering column out by undoing the top steering column U/J (make sure you mark it so you can refit in the same position) and the bolts that hold the steering column under the dash. Enlarge the hole in the bulkhead with a flapper wheel until the new bearing housing fits snugly. Drill some holes in the bulkhead using the holes in the new bearing housing as a guide. Bolt it in and refit the steering column. Pic of mine below;

P.S. That's Waxoyl on the chassis - not rustsmile

Or if you want to replace the bearing like for like:

If you have the Ford type steering column with trianglular bar then:

Ford partnumbers F7042536, and F6121994, F1650936, F1568136

They come as a set, but have seperate partnumbers. Total cost £5.35p (last year)

Its a very basic affair, but easy to fit.

Jack up drivers side, remove front wheel, remove the carpet in the drivers footwell, see 4 bolts/nuts. Spanner inside and under wheel arch, steering shaft has a couple of bolts with lock tabs - remove, which lets the shaft swing free. Old bearing will slip over now. Put in new bearing etc, do up the steering bolts WITH LOCK TABS!!! - you dont want those coming loose! Tap down friction washer to the bearing

About an hour.
