I don't know if anyone else has a soft spot for this Manga and Anime, but I've always liked it.
Just found out from following the link to IMDB on the John Williams thread that James Cameron is working on a film based on it for possible release in 2009 (see here)
Do you think he'll make a fair stab at it or will it be yet another movie based on a graphic novel / comic / manga that doesn't do the original justice?

Blimey, there are a few films called "Avatar", aren't there? (clicky)
Presumably we're talking about this one (fairly obviously as it has the director and writer as James Cameron). I'll have to go and dig up some info since IMDB is so lacking.
