Potentially very worrying, This should be made public.

Not sure where to post this. I think it needs a thread of its own, frankly.

I really hope the BBC aren't planning to hang the Vampire team out to dry over this, as they deserve better treatment.

I'm confused.
All I read was 'there are some pictures of Richard Hammond crashing'.
Whats the big deal there?

the the BBC are leaning on the operators of vampire not to proceed with their own investigation...

and that the BBC are publishing articals, and footage etc. before the HSE have finished their report...

something like that anyway...

It seems that it is acceptable to the Health and Safety Executive whose investigations have not yet been concluded, for the BBC to print pictures, produce articles and air some of the footage. All this is allowed without any opportunity for the operators of the vehicle to give their opinions or comments on these images and to refute or comment on other persons interpretation of them.

I am puxxled as in Top Gear magazine I got the impression a tyre blew. There appeared to be no attempt to blame anyone for the accident.

If a tyre did blow whats wrong with that? COuld have happened at any time surely?

I think the BBC should stick to what it occassionally fails at: preventing great television from being made. And I think we should hope it's starts to fail more often.

The BBC Top Gear television programme will show some of the footage of the training day and the crash run here in the UK on the 28th January programme. I do not know when this will reach the USA. Timing suggested that there will be BBC editing.

Primetime Land Speed Engineering have not been consulted or been involved in any of this BBC programme and publishing activity. This is because, even though the UK regional Police enquiry is not taking the matter any further, the Health and Safety Executive have yet to complete their investigation and publish their report. (This is a quasi-legal process which could still affect all involved with Primetime).

So, the HSE investigation into the incident (which will no doubt have a bearing the outcome of any liability, loss of earnings and medical expenses claims in the future) could well be prejudiced (sp) by footage and / or reportage. If criminal proceedings were ongoing, then the incident would be sub judice, and the footage could not be shown. However, a number of true petrol heads (should that be parrafin heads?) whose livelihoods and reputations could well be at stake, are not being allowed any input into the programme.

But why are you assuming that the BBC are going to try to make someone look bad?
I reckon we ought to reserve judgement.
I cant help feeling that its more likely that they didnt consult the company because there will be no mention of them, let alone blame!

Malcom Pittwood must have felt lonely and awkward replying to his own post on that forum. I've registered and added my best regards to him and his team.
