Just noticed some bubbling under the paint next to the drivers door handle. Never seen it before - looks like rust bubbling under the paint - aluminium rust ?Anybody had anything similar in the same position.

Been covered before either here or the AMOC site. A search should find it. Think it affects 06/07 cars. I would speak to your dealer.

Talk to your dealer - if you have a good relationship with them, they may talk to Aston who may offer a contribution to fixing it.

Aluminium oxidises just as steel does, so yes, it 'rusts' though the results are different in appearance.

The problems occur on DB9s where steel and aluminium are juxtaposed like the door handles and the side strakes, it's called a galvanic reaction, and the results aren't pretty. Not much that can be done, it'll either affect your car or it won't. I guess some have better paint than others keeping the metal apart, but if the two metals touch, they'll bubble.

There is a historic symmetry here. Astons of old were always known for steel-aluminium reaction because the ali panels were fixed round a steel tubular frame (the Superleggera system) and they used to go with regularity, particularly round fixing points.

Oh bugger - I have just noticed mine is going in the same place. Have you contacted AM or your dealer yet? I also have it in the bottom front corner of both doors.

What years are the affected cars? Why doesn't it affect V8V too?

Thanks guys - I'll ask the dealer - do we get a 10 year anti corrosion warranty on Aston's ? What a sickner - it's a 2006 and absolutely faultless until nowcry

It does.

06 and 07 seem to be the most affected.

yeah, its "anti corrosion" ...not paint bubbling on composite material that cant rust ...leaves a big woolly area

usually it seems people get offered that they can pay 1/2 of the respray costs...at dealer/works prices ....so 4x normal cost to start with frown

good luck with it, let us know what your dealer says .....

Is it something Aston have acknowledged and corrected on post 2007 cars or is every car coming up to 4 years old vulnerable? My 7 year old VX220 never had any paint bubbling and that was painted composite !!

Mine too, sent pics to the dealer, just waiting to hear back. Seems it might be worth banding together over this?!

My 07 Vantage started bubbling at around 2 years old. Dealer repaired in under warranty, but now at 4 years old the corrosion has returned. I was planning to use a local body shop to have a look at it, but I will now wait to see what response you get from AM.

I'm not 100% sure it's the composites...I wonder what's behind the skin in this area? Metal brackets with different materials used...?

My 7 suffered from bi-metallic corrosion quite badly eventually (when it was something like 10yrs old). It'll probably need doing again at some point, but probably much later in its life hopefully as I use it far less than I used to and never in crap weather.

I've had a quote incl. assistance from AM...just need to check how much an indie shop would charge. Like bogie notes, I suspect about the same amount...though the invoice would have AM logos on it which would probably look better in the file.

I had this problem on my 2005 Tungsten Silver DB9 at the join between the rear wings and the roof. Although the car was out of waranty, AM resprayed the affected panels under the anti-corrosion waranty. However, they only covered 50% of the £1000 bill. Seems to be the norm for older cars.
