Petrol price-punching organisation Pipeline Card has reached an impressive 150,000 registered members. It's also reaching the mainstream media - it featured on ITN news last night and of course on PistonHeads at its launch (see link below). It was set up in November of last year to offer discounted petrol to private individuals.
The Web site was set up by motoring enthusiast and former fuel tax campaigner Ben Scammell, and reckons it could offer its members discounts of between 5p and 10p a litre on unleaded fuel via the Pipeline Discount Card.
"This is really about using the power of the Internet to get a better deal for ordinary British motorists", said Scammell. "There's a discount fuel scheme already in place in Holland but we think this is the first UK discount fuel card for individuals.
"We have only been going for a few months but we have already secured an agreement in principle from a major retail partner and our membership is growing very quickly. The card is free -- there's no annual fee -- so people have nothing to lose by signing up. It takes about 30 seconds online."
Pipeline card expects to begin issuing cards before the Summer.
