If you happen to be waiting for a flight, doctors or a tooth yanking in the US next year and on the table in front of you is Ford Racing Performance Parts catalogue, pick it up, read it, as it holds one big parts surprise.
From 2008 Ford will be building their limited-edition Mustang FR500S on a production line and then selling through the catalogue, and a select number of authorised dealers.
The 4.6-litre V8 ‘stang – which was co-developed by Ford Racing and Miller Motorsports Park – is seen as part of the ladder to GT Racing in the US. The extra racing components include a Ford Racing short-throw shifter, uprated braking, adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars. Also with a new cold air intake, exhaust system and some pokery from Roush the car produces 325bhp.
This “turnkey” car will be sold for around $75,000 (£35,000) and is seen as a “chance to get into a high-performing vehicle that is durable, reliable and competitive – right off the production line” according to Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology.
