Aileron should give a 'lift' to supercar fans
Dutch supercar maker Spyker revealed its all-new
C8 Aileron at the Geneva motor show back in March
, and has now removed the roof to create the C8 Aileron Spyder.
The C8 Aileron was always intended to spawn a convertible version, so there has been barely any engineering modification to the car, aside from the addition of the electronically folding fabric hood. This roof on this particular car is in a fetching and very Dutch shade of orange, but seven other colours are available.
Like its coupe sibling, the Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder looks like a sleeker, stretched version of its C8 predecessor. As befitting a company whose heritage lies in the aviation sector (the Aileron name tag and ‘aeroblade’ wheels are a bit of a clue to that), aircraft design cues abound. At PH HQ we particularly like the air intakes that, in our fevered imaginations, look like the mounts for cannons in a WWII fighter.
Leather and aluminium abounds inside
Under the skin, the C8 Aileron Spyder retains the same 4.2-litre Audi-sourced V8. That’s good for 400bhp and 354lb ft of torque at 3400rpm. Combined with the car’s lightweight aluminium construction, Spyker claims this translates to a 186mph top speed and a 0-62mph sprint of 4.5secs.
The standard gearbox is a six-speed manual, but a six-speed ZF auto will be offered as an option.
Production of the C8 Aileron Spyder is set for the middle of next year, and the car should cost around £160k.
In case you were wondering and can't be bothered to google it, 'nulla tenaci invia est via' is the Spyker motto. It means 'for the tenacious no road is impassable'.
