Audi has released a smaller, lighter e-tron sports car concept at the Detroit show, following on from the
R8-esque version first revealed at the Frankfurt show last September
The new car doesn't have the 3300lb ft punch of torque that its predecessor did, but the twin electric motors still drive 201bhp and 1954lb ft of torque to the rear wheels (the first e-tron was four-wheel drive). Crucially, the new concept also weighs 250kg less than its predecessor, tipping the scales at 1350kg.
That's enough power, and a low-enough weight to allow the e-tron to hit 62mph in 5.9secs on the way to a (limited for range preservation) 124mph top speed.
Audi reckons you'll get a 155-miles range on a full charge, and, provided you can find a 400v power supply, it'll charge up in two hours.
Beyond the save-the-planet hype, the design is also reportedly something like what you'd get if Audi were to produce an out-and-out sports car positioned below the R8, although the new e-tron is also significantly smaller than the current Audi TT.
