This design will be replaced by...
We've seen a number of leaked and official images for the joint Toyota/Subaru developed FT-86, not to mention a concept back at last year's Tokyo Motor Show. Now it appears that the shape we've come to know may have been thrown out in favour of a different exterior design.
The established concept was mainly designed at Toyota's ED² studio in France, and has been seen all over the place recently. Special editions had even began to surface, and the concept has been previewed as part of the next instalment of the Gran Turismo franchise.
...this, say Japanese sources
Yet according to reports from Japanese websites, this design may have been dropped as long ago as November 2009 in favour of a different proposal from Toyota's North American design research institute Calty - and it's a pretty significant revision if this rendering is to be believed.
It comes courtesy of a Japanese car news site, and is said to be close to the American design that will get the nod for production.
So in spite of the official concept having won many admirers among the press and public, it seems Toyota's upper echelons think they something even better up their sleeves.
Assuming the reports are true, of course.
