New car will be based on M3 GTS
BMW is rumoured to be planning to celebrate its recent win at the
Nurburgring 24hrs
with an even more extreme version of the
sold-out M3 GTS
Details are scarce - and official info non-existent - but a thread on the BMW forum m3post.com suggests that the new car could be called the M3 GTS-R and that it will be a final hurrah for the current M3.
The GTS-R is expected to get all the features of the M3 GTS, including the adjustable carbon fibre rear spoiler and lightweight side windows, but adds a double-lip front spoiler pumped-up rear arches and a carbon fibre bonnet and rear boot lid.
The engine is likely to be the enlarged 444bhp 4.4-litre V8 from the GTS, and could possibly get the KERS regenerative braking and power boost system expected on the next-gen M5.
The GTS's striking orange paintwork won't be carried over, however; the GTS-R is said to be getting a matt black paint job.
