Car prices are tricky things to predict. But there are some models that look very much like they might have gone as low as they can go in value, meaning that now's the time to get hold of them if you fancy one. While you probably won't make a bundle of cash, you probably won't lose much either, and you'll kick yourself if you check back in a year's time and find the perfect examples you had your eye on have all been replaced by more expensive alternatives. But which of these do you reckon is the most surefire buy at the moment? Cast your vote, and then go and spend some money. And if you don't... well, don't say we didn't warn you!
TVR - most models
Declining numbers combined with a growing appetite abroad for our Tivs mean that there's a strong likelihood that values are set to rise. The cars most in demand are the more traditional V8 models - so Griffith, Chimaera and Cerbera are all especially sought after. The Sagaris, too, is looking like a strong contender to see a rise in values soon; look at the level of performance it offers and compare it to other models of TVR and it's clear it'll soon be very much in demand. Porsche 911 (996) Turbo
As we recently pointed outyou can now get hold of a decent 996 Turbo for under £20,000. To put that into perspective, this is an all-wheel-drive Porsche which can hit 62mph in 4.2s and go on to 190mph. We seriously doubt they'll drop an awful lot further than this, meaning now's probably the time to pick one up, if you're going to! (Alex)
BMW M3 (E36)
Never has it been this easy to get hold of a genuine M-car. And not just any, either - the E36 was widely touted as one of the best-handling cars of the late 90s. And while many have been lost to the chav chariot brigade, there are still plenty of clean, straight cars out there at ridiculously cheap prices. As the numbers thin out and many get broken for parts, watch the values start to creep up in the next couple of years. Now's the time to buy! (Alex)
Mercedes SL (R129)
Here's a thing you might not realise: a genuine, V8-powered Merc roadster can be yours for just over £5,000 these days. The R129 might have been the slabbiest of all the SLs, but even today it still feels pretty special, and comes from the era in Merc's history when all its cars were 'hewn from granite', to quote from the road tester's cliche book. The 500 gives you a healthy 322hp to play with, or if you can't live with the fuel bills, a 320, 300 or 280 can be had for even less. (Alex)
Peugeot 205 GTI
Given its iconic status, relatively low running costs and retro appeal, the 205 GTI is still surprisingly cheap. Don't expect it to last, though, as time claims more of them and numbers start to fall. Some pundits still reckon the 205 GTI is the best hot hatch ever made, and it still offers a raw, back-to-basics driving experience that rewards with a laugh a minute. Buy one, enjoy it, look after it, and watch it appreciate. (Alex)
