Subaru’s about to take the wraps off its first preview of the new WRX – that’s if images that have surfaced on the internet today are anything to go by.
WRX Concept brings Subaru styling up to date
We'd heard that Subaru would be bringing a ‘performance concept’ to the
New York show
, and this appears to be it. While unconfirmed by Subaru, it’s being reported that these leaked images from French website
Blog Automobile
show the concept car that the company is set to unveil tomorrow.
Dressed in Subaru’s classic WR Blue, complete with yellow highlights, the concept suggests a stunning new styling direction for the company. Sharp-suited and aggressive, the usual Subaru styling cues are all there, but brought dramatically up-to-date with hints of BRZ. How much of the concept will make it to production remains to be seen – but it has to be said that with the exception of some fancy lights, it doesn’t look too far from a realistic production proposal. And while there’s no word on a powerplant yet, internet talk of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer capable of producing around 300hp has our mouths watering. We will, of course, bring you all the official details as they emerge.
Whether the new car would make it to the UK isn’t yet known, though with Subaru’s imminent withdrawal of the current WRX from sale over here, it doesn’t look likely. That could change, though, with enough interest in the new car from the UK market. So here goes. Dear Subaru: pleeeease?
