A police force adding a supercar to its fleet is nothing new. We’ve seen it plenty of times before with the Italian police and the various Lamborghinis they seem to have a propensity for
writing off
. And even our forces aren’t averse to a spot of publicity hunting, with the
Lotus Esprit
Ford RS200
Lexus IS-F
being among the many PH-worthy motors to wear the jam sandwich livery. However, it seems Dubai’s police force is the latest to join the craze, and it’s gone down the same route as the Italians by plumping for a Lamborghini.
It's no tyre-smokin' Crown Vic, that's for sure
No skinny latte Gallardo for this Emirate, though; Dubai’s cops have plumped for the full-fat Aventador. Which must make this one of the most extrovert cruiser choices we’ve ever seen. Well, if you’re going to police a part of the world that’s
well-stocked with supercars
, it seems to make sense. What’s more, rumours abound that Dubai’s police force is also looking to take on a fleet of
Chevrolet Camaros
too, so there’s every chance that the Dubai’s plod will soon have garages just as chock-full of desirable metal as some of its denizens.
Pity, then, New York’s hardened cops, who’ll be looking on enviously, as it seems that the pursuit of green credentials and the price of – ironically – the UAE’s oil is forcing them into thriftier modes of transport. Where Dubai’s police are enjoying their new raging bull, New York’s are having to make do with a load of bull, as the V8-powered Crown Vics the department’s traffic cops used to tonk around in are slowly being replaced by Toyota Prii. That’ll show those crims. Well, the ones on push-bikes at least.
