Remember the carbon bodied
McLaren P1
from Geneva this year? Public reaction was unsurprisingly so good that McLaren Special Operations has had another go; not only is it now on the
675LT Spider
, but it's also making a 25-car production run.
Could have called it Batman spec...
They're all sold - no surprises there - but it's still worth a few minutes of your time. It is a 675hp McLaren with lots and lots of carbon, after all.
The official line is that there's an additional 40 per cent of carbon fibre parts in the Carbon Series, including the roof and tonneau, bonnet and rear deck, side blades, wings, A-pillars and filler cap. This on top of the standard Longtail's carbon side skirts, intakes, bumpers and Airbrake. Best like the shiny strong black stuff, put it that way. The Carbon Series also receives McLaren's Track Telemetry pack as standard, with three built-in cameras if you want to record any circuit antics.
Mechanically the Carbon Series is identical to a 675LT Spider, which means 675hp and 516lb ft, plus 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds and 203mph. There is no word on any weight saving from the additional gloss carbon.
The 25 Carbon Series cars are in addition to the 500 existing Spiders, suggesting just how strong demand for that car has been. McLaren says that the carbon fibre body cannot be retrofitted to any Spider already ordered though; sorry guys. A price hasn't been officially announced - how uncouth of you to ask - but customers are expected to get their cars before the end of the year.
