AC Schnitzer previews new 5 Series upgrades
Schnitzer has been tuning BMWs since the 80s - it's not stopping now
It’s probably fair to say that the new G60-era BMW 5 Series is not the most exciting car in the world to look at. There have been bold 5 Series in the past and design masterpiece 5s as well; this eighth generation car doesn’t really register as either. It’s fine to look at, just a bit plain. Those after a bit more visual impact from the new 5 Series will be pleased to know, then, that AC Schnitzer already has parts available.
Performance upgrades to ‘significantly increase driving pleasure’ are set to follow in due course; with so much of the range now hybridised (or electric), there’s likely more work involved than turning up the boost on a turbo six as may once have been. But Schnitzer does already have bits available to create a bit more attitude, including lowering springs, decals, interior parts and a bodykit. Maybe there won’t be many desperate to tinker with their £50k (at least) executive saloon just yet, but it’s something to talk about. Better Schnitzer modifications you don’t need than none at all.
New flow-formed wheels, a set of 20mm spacers and lowering springs make the difference here, the whole car a lot more muscular as a result. Schnizter says the work also makes for ‘perfect cornering’. Note as well the front splitter, side skirts and rear spoilers, which take a bit of the bulk out of the first five-metre 5 Series. Like almost every AC Schnitzer build ever, too, there will be new pedals available for the interior.
Not much to go on for the moment, then, but a start; with the M versions of this 5 Series set to be more expensive and more complex than ever, there may be some folk who fancy a simpler approach to making a sportier saloon. And who don’t really like what’s offered by the BMW M Performance catalogue…
Well this looks as if it has been driven through Ali Baba/ Wish.com.
All those black splitters/ spoilers look cheap, the sort of stuff people stick on ageing 1/3 series with tiger seal.
Wheels are awful as well, despite probably being of a very high quality.
It’s a mass produced saloon car big enough to take 3 other colleagues to the airport and do family duties on the weekend. It built its reputation on having above average engines and above average handling to help when you’re late for that Tues morning Sales & Marking meeting at HQ and pressing on a bit. Thats it.
