Aventador
on us: the LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition.
Something of the Dark Side about this rear end
As you might have guessed already from that slightly unwieldy moniker, it’s been created as part of Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and although it hasn’t officially been unveiled yet,
Autoblog
has managed to obtain a selection of press shots and a few details of the new car. The most obvious addition is the wonderfully unsubtle aero kit, which includes a beefy front splitter, and a mad rear diffuser that looks not dissimilar to Darth Vader’s helmet.
It might look daft, but it serves a purpose: Lamborghini claims that the new addenda make the Aventador’s aerodynamics around 50 per cent more efficient. If yesterday’s Aventador at the ‘ring video is anything to go by, weight won’t be too much of a problem either, as it’ll gladly grind its undertray away. And in any case, there’ll be a power hike to compensate - to 720hp, to be precise, which will apparently bring the 0-62mph time down to 2.9 seconds. Top speed is now quoted at 217mph, too.
100 examples of the 50 Anniversario edition will be produced in all, and while there is still
a question mark
over whether special editions like this are where Lamborghini needs to be focusing its efforts – especially with the three-off

fresh in the memory – you can bet your bottom dollar that order books will fill up pretty sharpish when it’s officially unveilied at the Shanghai Motor Show next week.
