SUBARU SVX 4WD COUPE 1993

First registered on 1/3/1993, this is a UK Subaru SVX in excellent all round OEM condition, with last service & MOT in May 2019

In the early 90s, all the main Japanese manufacturers were busy trying to out-gun each other with technology-rich junior supercars such as the NSX, Supra Twin Turbo, 300ZX and so on. Subaru stormed into the fray with a super-GT which was so unique that it still causes heads to turn wherever it goes today – the crazy, sublime SVX (‘Sports Vehicle Experimental’) Alcoyne

Subaru commissioned Italian design house Giugario to design a space-age show car – and then promptly engineered it directly for mass production, even having to provide for a brand new glass forming technology for the wild inset window design. A bespoke 230bhp 24 valve flat 6 and advanced 4WD were added to the mix, as well as every electronic control or gadget that Subaru could muster, and a lavish leather interior was also specified. No expense was spared – apparently Subaru lost substantial money on every one built.

K431KYG is a fine example indeed – it is fully functional, and has excellent paintwork, no corrosion, and no mechanical problems. There is a nice history file. The automatic gearbox was the car’s Achilles heel, but this one has been cosseted with the very best transmission fluid and additives, and is as smooth-shifting as they come

In driving, it builds up speed like a locomotive, and because of the very low centre of gravity and 4WD balance, is almost totally flat on cornering. The enormous glasshouse and low scuttle gives amazing visibility and airiness. That flat 6 is a wonder – so well balanced that only the rev counter gives it away at idle

One thing is for sure – there can never be another SVX !
