Description
1998 R reg TVR Chimaera 500 57k miles with full service history.
TVR Car Club Member
Porsche Midnight Blue (full Respray in 2015) with the classic combination of blue and magnolia interior , brushed stainless steel instrument panel, the interior and hood are all in great condition.
FSH from well known TVR dealers and specialists, 14 service stamps in all, the first 6 being from the original supplying main dealer Fenhursts then specialist history thereafter. It had a full 12k service to the TVR schedule last year with new front discs pads and new silicone coolant hoses with stainless steel pipes. it went through the last MOT in Oct with no advisories.
Within the last 2000 miles its had ;
New Clutch
Gearbox synchro’s bearings and rebuild
New Toyo Tyres all round
Oil pressure sender
New Radiator fitted (1st June 2020)
This is the later generation MK 2 Chimaera so has the desirable serpentine engine, T5 gearbox, Power Steering, BTR Differential and the rare 5.0ltr V8 block.
Quick check online shows 485 of this model left in the uk of which only 259 are registered. Total amount of Chimaeras inc 4.0 & 4.5ltrs is 2k but this has been a decreasing number which is why the value has been steadily climbing over the last few years.
It has an excellent chassis, the previous owner had a full body off restoration in 2012 at RT racing including new outriggers then repainted and wax oiled before refitting. Lower front wish bone has also been replaced since then.
The car runs and drives superbly and everything works as it should. You can definitely tell the difference in Torque output from the 500 over the 450 and 400 versions
Interior is stunning and the refreshed stainless steel instrument panel really sets off the navy and magnolia colour combination which is also complimented by a Leven alloy stalks and gear knob
Body work and paint are in great order and the blue really is my favourite colour for this car. There is one chip on the bonnet which is the only real noticeable flaw ( happened on my first drive out!) I’ve been quoted £300 for a bonnet respray to correct this but I have been happy to run as is for now.
It has an excellent Toad alarm system with 2 key fobs and a new alpine Bluetooth head unit which plays and calls remotely or through a cable. The alarm was installed professionally a few years ago and is valuable upgrade to the car ( also makes insurance a little cheaper)
This is an excellent example of the Chimaera and I looked at many before choosing this one due to its history, rarity, condition, colour, spec (especially the engine gearbox ,diff & body off restoration) Its also rare as its in its standard form which is its most valuable state. No exhaust mods or engine tweaks. Its perfect as it is and needs no work.
Myself, I am not the most mechanical minded person but I do drive with mechanical sympathy and keep on top of general maintenance so all repair/servicing work has been undertaken by Sportmotive TVR in Stoke (very high reputation) I also make sure the car is regularly started and moved over winter. Over the last few weeks I have detailed the exterior with polish and 3 layers of wax.
This really is my pride and joy, and a dream car I didn’t think id ever own. It really gives you a silly grin every time you start it up!
I do not need to sell the car and won be disappointed if it doesn't go (especially as its summer!!)
This is priced to sell and would be up around 19 - 22k at a dealer so my asking price of £16,800 is a very fair reflection of its appreciating value.
Pleased let me know if you would like any more info and to arrange a viewing.
The car is also for sale on facebook marketplace and should be easy to find.
it will be quicker to reply through facebook messenger and easier to send any further info. (i cant post links on this advert)
Thanks
Oli
