Michelotto was commissioned by the Ferrari factory to produce a rally version of the 308GTB, with the model homologated for international competition by the FIA in Group 4. From 1977 onwards, eleven used 308 road cars were converted to rally specification by Michelotto. With the changes to the FIA rules for 1982, bringing in the new Groups A, B and N, the 308 GTB was issued with the Gp.B homologation no.220 on 1st October 1982.
