Honda NSX-R

Following the 2002 facelift, Honda introduced a limited, high-performance Type-R variant of the NA2 NSX. Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara and his team aimed to develop the most advanced iteration of the NSX to date, which could compete with the supercar from European manufacturers.

Although weight reduction was prioritized, numerous mechanical and chassis refinements were implemented in the NSX coupe platform to create a road car capable of competing with leading supercars of the period.

The Honda NSX-R, derived from the NA2 coupe, utilized an upgraded 3.2-liter DOHC V6 featuring precision balancing, which produces 290 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed manual transaxle.

The car achieved significant weight reduction and increased rigidity compared to the standard NSX coupe. This weight reduction is a result of extensive use of carbon fiber to replace major aluminum exterior panels, including the front hood and rear spoiler. Red Recaro carbon-kevlar racing seats substituted for standard leather seats, and lighter, stronger forged 17-inch wheels were installed.

The NSX-R NA2 is one of the most sought-after unicorns and has become highly collectible among JDM enthusiasts.
