2002 MAZDA MX-5

Here we have what is probably one of, if not ‘the’ best MX5 ‘Sport’ S VVT models available for sale today.

Having covered less than 25000 genuine documented miles, this car has been cherished and cared for throughout it’s previous and current ownership and is a truly superb example.

You will see from it’s MOT history that the car did not undergo it’s first MOT test until September 2020 when the car was 18 years old. This is because the original owner sadly died having only owned the car for 2 and a half years covering 20000 miles in that time. At that point, the family decided to put the car into secure dry storage while they dealt with the family issues. It appears that this took some considerable time and during 2020, the car was taken out of storage and sold to a dealer who carried out a full recommisioning project over several months. Following this process, the car was MOT’d and serviced before selling it to it’s new owner in July 2021. That owner only bought the car as a ‘stop gap’ whilst he was searching for a particular model of Porsche which he managed to source in May 2022 when I bought the car from him. Since buying the car, it has only been used during summer months for classic driving tours and then from October to April the car is SORNed and lives in my heated garage under a soft cover.

As this is the Sport S VVT model it differs from the standard MX5 as follows;

Performance & Drivetrain: The Sport model features a 6-speed manual gearbox, Torsen LSD, and stiffer Bilstein suspension as standard. The standard NB usually comes with a 5-speed gearbox and open differential.

Engine: Post-2001 Sport models (Mk2.5) boast a 1.8 VVT engine producing 150hp in Europe compared to the earlier 140 hp units.

Exterior & Interior: The Sport model is characterized by 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and high-back seats.

The interior is in beautiful condition with no real evidence of wear and a fresh, well-preserved feel. Everything functions as it should, reflecting careful ownership and proper maintenance. On the road, the car drives superbly as a low-mileage MX-5 should and is hugely enjoyable, with the light, balanced feel that has made the MX-5 such an icon

The car has also had full underbody corrosion protection using Lanoguard and as such, is in excellent condition. In addition, I have just replaced the rear silencer due to a loose baffle giving a vibration. The car will be sold with a full years MOT and I consider that viewing is essential for you to judge for yourself as to the superb condition .
