RENAULT CLIO (X65) RENAULTSPORT 172 CUP 16V 2002

Several weeks ago, on a night out – my brother and I thought it would be a great idea to purchase a car he had been offered through work, and turn it into a track car and do a few track days this year….

However, the reality of us both working fulltime (including weekends) and both having wives and two children to appease, means that realistically we will never get round to living this particular dream!!

Then we thought…..We’ll just keep it on the drive and use it for the odd spirited drive as and when – But not once have I found the time to swap my automatic Saab for a spirited drive in this car and my brother (it sits on his drive) has only managed about 4 miles!!

So, it’s got to go!!

It’s a great car – I originally picked the car up and drove it home and it’s a very, very tight car.

The suspension if firm, but its not crashy, there are no knock or bangs.

The steering is everything you would hope it to be on a car like this – Great feedback, no slop or play, it tracks true and strait, both under acceleration and braking.

The gearbox is probably the nicest one I have experienced in a 172 (although I have only ever previously driven full fat 172’s).

It stops as it should and the engine is very strong and responsive.

Everything works on the car, and there are some nice touch’s such as the genuine Clio Cup Racecar brake cooling assemblies and a lovely 320mm steering wheel.

The car has covered 102k (you would never know)!! And has a folder full of invoices and receipts showing this car has been very well maintained – Some of these invoices include 2 cambelt changes (one being fairly recently) and a new gearbox and clutch.

My brother (currently an Audi service manager) was previously a Renault Main dealer service manager and knows these cars very well – when he inspected this one, he noticed there was an amber check engine light on – His diagnostics showed it to be only for a fuel injector not running optimally – we have changes all 4 injectors, even though it was only cylinder 3 that had an issue)

Also, on occasion an amber engine check light comes on, but this is only a PO443 code, due to the removal of the carbon canister – I am sure anyone you that know these cars or have researched them, know that most of them have had the carbon canister removed – The car will come with an OBD2 code reader that allows you to clear this light when it occasionally pops on.

The car has road tax until the end of April and will receive a fresh MOT on Wednesday 5th February.

The car is registered in my brother’s name.
