Description
This is one of only seven right hand drive examples and is one of only two of these examples fitted with the desirable six speed manual gearbox. This rare and very rapid coupe certified number 10 as indicated on the roof mounted Alpina plaque, has covered only 6,500 miles from new in the hands of three owners and remains in excellent original order throughout.
The B12 Coupe was based on the already highly regarded BMW 850 CSi, typically Alpina finely honed the car with an extensive list of upgrades resulting in a very rapid and satisfying driving machine and the fastest BMW ever at the time. Expanding the V12 engine to 5.7 litres increased power to 416bhp with 420Ib foot of torque – this resulted in a top speed in excess of 180mph with a sub 5 second dash to 60mph. A handmade carbon fibre bonnet with NACA duct reduced weight and aided engine cooling, whilst uprated Alpina springs with Bilstein dampers and massive 285/35 rear tyres mounted on Alpina 20 spoke alloy wheels greatly aided road holding.
This example was ordered to a very high specification including electric sunroof, bi selective climate control, electric heated memory bucket seats, full Buffalo leather interior, electric rear blind, uprated Hifi system and adjustable dampers.
The distinctive Alpina body striping with discreet green and blue inserts on the Anthracite Buffalo leather seats further identify the car as does the unique wooden gear knob and steering wheel.
Car number 10 was ordered directly from the Alpina factory by serial car buyer and enthusiast, the Sultan of Brunei. It remained in his extensive collection for a number of years and was hardly ever driven, whilst always being carefully stored in his museum.
The car was purchased in 2001 by the UK Alpina dealer Sythers of Nottingham. They advertised the car in The Sunday Times shortly after purchase and described it as being virtually as new with less than 1,000 miles recorded. Following a full check over and service, the car was purchased by motoring enthusiast, Sir Anthony Bamford. The car remained a part of this fabulous collection until 2009 and again was used very sparingly whilst always being looked after very carefully. During this ownership the Alpina featured in the February 2005 edition of Octane Magazine in which it was pitted against the mid nineties Bentley Continental S.
In 2009 we purchased the car on behalf of a valued client from the highly regarded dealer Maxted Page. At this point the car had covered about 4,000 miles. The car has remained in storage with us ever since with only a handful of summer trips being completed by our customer. The car has been maintained during this period by local BMW dealer Dick Lovett in Swindon. Indeed the car will return to them for a service prior to delivery to the new owner.
