Description

This is a rare opportunity to buy a really late example of an RX7: this is a 2002 Type RB model Series 8, one of the most desirable RX7s (as its 1999+ spec car with the chassis number beginning with FD3S-****). This particular car has just been imported from Japan by us and is currently being prepared for sale. These later cars were sold in Japan only and had a much improved specification with more efficient turbochargers and with improved intercooling and radiator cooling, made possible by a revised frontal area. The seats, steering wheel, and front and rear lights were all also slightly improved. In fact the list of improvements over earlier models is quite vast and covers every pretty well every part of the car and it simply results in a much more desirable RX7. Power is supposed to be in the order of 276bhp but, having driven many RX7s, this one feels particularly rapid by any standards.
In a joint project between Goodwood Sportscars (we specialise in buying and selling MX5s and RX7s) and renowned MX5/RX7 specialists AK Automotive (who specialise in the repair and race preparation of Mazdas), we have been successfully searching out and then importing the very best Mazdas from Japan where the cars are in superb rust-free condition. These RX7s can be phenomenal to drive so we go out of our way when we have the chance to acquire a good one like this example here.
So who are we and why should you buy from us?
Well between my team at Goodwood Sportscars and the chaps at AK Automotive, we have many years selling, repairing, modifying and racing Mazdas. Anthony and Dan at AK Automotive are highly respected throughout the Mazda world and their 420+bhp turbo-charged MX5 Mk1 has to be seen to be believed. Their race-prepared Mazdas have successfully competed in various championships throughout the UK including the Ma5da MX5 series and the BRSCC Mazda MX5 championship. Its not just Mazdas that we’re involved with. Recent visitors to the AK Automotive workshops include various Imprezas, TVRs, Skyline and Porsches. As for me, I’m a self-professed performance car nut and live, sleep and breath quick cars (much to my wife’s annoyance). I’ve been involved with cars sales for 30+ years and have sold literally thousands of performance cars. So between us the three of us, we’re pretty good at spotting a good car and at making one work to the best of its ability. We've had many thousands of Mazdas (both RX7 and MX5) through our hands and know their strengths and weaknesses well.
Finished in Innocent Blue (paint code 20P) with dark grey/black trim, this also has power steering, air con, ABS, electric windows, electric mirrors and a Nardi leather rimmed airbag steering wheel. Inside everything is clean and tidy with no damage to dashboard or door casings: the door trim and the centre console storage box lid have a habit of breaking on these RX7s so we were pleased to find that these are in A1 condition. It even has its original black dealer fitted carpet mats. Everything works as it should - even the air conditioning works perfectly and is ice cold. The boot area is nice and clean and it still has its original jack, wheel brace and spare wheel. It took us a long time and lots of searching before we found a car as good as this. Engines are everything on these cars and this one will be comprehensively checked over - we already know that it has good compression readings. The car will of course be serviced properly and we will guarantee that the engine is strong and sound. The actual engine bay is straight and clean with no corroded nuts/bolts etc. All rubber hoses are in good condition and with just a little effort the engine bay could look spectacularly good. Oil pressure is good, it holds its temperature perfectly, the engine sounds sweet but as we want to give the new owner real peace of mind, we'll include 6 months warranty.
Bodywork is excellent with no dents or scratches worth mentioning and of course no rust whatsoever. The paintwork is equally superb and it looks particularly good in this colour. I have just taken some quick photos here, literally as the car arrived in the UK so I will photograph the car properly soon and will add new photos. In any case, 'spectacular' is the only word I can use to describe this car. Obviously, as its spent its life in Japan, its utterly rust-free and beautifully clean underneath. In fact the underside and suspension components are so superbly clean that it looks like a lightly-used three year old car.
Its now being carefully checked over, serviced, UK registered and will be given a new MOT. We'll take care of all new registration paperwork and, other than buying road tax, the new owner will simply be able to drive the car away and enjoy it. Price is £9995 and a deposit secures this car now.
We're Mazda enthusiasts and have good reputations in the Mazda world: check out my website for more about buying a Mazda along with details of other MX5s/RX7s for sale. Just google my name and that of AK Automotive). Please do not hesitate to ask any questions – if you are genuinely interested, you’ll have plenty and I’m happy to talk about Mazdas all day. I’m located in Berwick upon Tweed and always have a selection of interesting cars for sale including more newly imported examples.
