The Porsche 928 was a sports-GT sold from 1978 to 1995 and was an immediate hit with orders in the UK far outstripping demand. Originally intended to replace the company's iconic 911, the 928 attempted to combine the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury saloon to create what some Porsche executives thought would be a vehicle with wider appeal than the compact, quirky and sometimes difficult 911. The 928 qualified as a 2+2, having two small seats in the rear. Both rear seats could be folded down to enlarge the luggage area and both the front and rear seats had sun visors for occupants. Porsche's design and development efforts paid off during the 1978 European Car of the Year competition where the 928 won ahead of the BMW 7-series and the Ford Granada. The 928 is the only sports car so far to have won this competition as the usual winners were mainstream hatchbacks and saloons from major European manufacturers. This is regarded as proof of how advanced the 928 was compared to its contemporaries. This right-hand drive 1988 Porsche 928 S4 has been carefully looked after by all of its four owners who have kept it fully maintained and properly serviced and, according to a note in the service book, the cam belt was replaced about two years ago when the car had completed around 80,000 miles. Looking superb in its original colour scheme of black and black and cream leather this has to be one of the best colour combinations available. Supplied complete with a full service and new MOT, a complete set of original handbooks, a fully stamped service book and a file containing invoices going back to 2002 and old MoT certificates which start in 1991. Ready to be used, this retro classic has certainly been cherished and the 928 is now quite rightly being recognized along with other grand touring cars of the period such as the Aston Martin V8 and Ferrari 400i.
