This very special Porsche is one of only 19 RHD vehicles and one of only 11 vehicles supplied to the UK when new in 92/93. Porsche manufactured just 86 of these vehicles making it the rarest lightweight road going Porsche ever built and this particular factory fresh example carries the penultimate chassis #85

This particular example was a special request vehicle with numerous individual request items including Polar Silver metallic paintwork with stunning special request full Flamenco Red leather interior that includes everything in leather, even leather wrapped roll bars. The car was also specified with gold painted calipers with its Speed-line wheel centres

painted in Amethyst.

The vehicle has been in professional dry storage for 22 years by its original purchaser and only owner until 2015. Porsche Centre Cardiff was thrilled to be commissioned to re-commission the vehicle by the new and current owner. The re-commission that we carried out was very extensive as would be expected after 22 years in dry storage, the following no expense spared actions were undertaken by us late last 2015 at a cost of over £14,000.

As you would expect the 911 was presented to us in superb visual condition which corroborates that the vehicle had never been driven. To get the car running like the first day it rolled of the production line we carried out a full service, replacing all filters and oils including the gearbox oil. We also replaced the spark plugs and all engine drive belts. The engine was then turned over by hand as a precautionary measure. This identified that the ignition, fuelling and turbo all need attention purely through deterioration of internal seals. The turbo was overhauled and seals were replaced, the injectors were also replaced along with the fuel accumulator and fuelling distributor. We also removed the fuel and breather tanks which were sent away for specialist cleaning and resealing to rule out any form of contamination. The rear exhaust silencer was replaced to eliminate any concerns of oil contamination from the turbo. Finally we replaced the cold start injector and oxygen sensor which allowed us to set up the engine emissions. 964 Turbo S was given a clean bill of health and a MOT certificate. She now runs perfectly!

In 1992 Porsche announced that it was to produce a very limited run of its current 964 Turbo that was to be designed by the Exclusive department and christened the 911 Turbo S Leichtbau (Light build). The prototype was built using the 1992 3.3ltr Turbo chassis which was then given to the Porsche engineers with the instructions to make it special. Because the car was to be an evolution of the current car, the brief was clear, increase the engine output and make a significant weight reduction.

Porsche engineers found with newly designed camshafts and precision-machining of the intake ducts, altering the charge pressure and installing a new fuel injection system to the six-cylinder engine making it capable of an extra 61bhp in its performance. This took the total output to 381bhp but to deliver the power safely, the car was lowered by 40 millimetres and given firmer Bilstein suspension. The main focus was to reduce the weight which they managed to achieve, reducing the overall weight by 180 kg. This was achieved by doing without under body protection, removing sound proofing, air conditioning and power steering and rear seats. Further savings came from thinner glass, aluminium doors, a carbon fibre luggage compartment and even thinner carpets.
