The Lotus Carlton is a legend and the kind of car that comes along once in a generation. At a time when really fast four-door saloons were the preserve of BMW and Mercedes, the Carlton arrived and demolishing the opposition. The Daily Mail newspaper declaring it at the time as “to fast for British Roads” only added to the magic!

Powered by a twin-turbo straight-six developing 377bhp, Lotus put a lot of work into the Carlton's 3.6-litre power unit, uprating and strengthening the bottom end, porting the 24-valve cylinder head, and fitting forged 'slipper pistons' made by Mahle atop new Lotus-designed connecting rods tied to a counterweighted, forged steel crankshaft.

The gearbox is the six-speed transmission used in the Corvette ZR-1, the only transmission available to GM capable of handling the car's huge torque. Braking is handled by big AP Group C derivied four pot calipers with 330mm ventilated discs at the front and two pot at the rear.This car was supplied in March 1991 by Moorland Motors of Blackpool finished in the obligatory Imperial Green with Anthracite Leather – as all of them were! Car number 28 of 284 UK right hand drive vehicle produced has since lead a cosseted existence covering just over 4,500 miles.

In 2017 this immaculate example was subjected to a full recommissioning service following a period in dry storage. It runs and drives superbly and has just recently visited the worlds longest serving Lotus dealership, Bell & Colvill, for a routine service and inspection.

Complete with its original book pack and correct numbered Lotus Carlton book that was presented to each owner at the time of sale. It is hard to imagine that a better version of this iconic supercar exists today making it not only a wonderful car to own but also a sound investment.
