𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
For the last version of Renault Sport’s iconic hot hatch to sport a manual gearbox, the Clio 200, Dieppe pulled out all the engineering stops. With special torque-steer reducing “Perfohub” struts, double-effect hydraulic dampers and a quicker steering rack, it was clear that they were taking the job seriously.
The 2 litre F4R engine was tuned for more low-down torque, too, and their efforts were widely well received. The RS200 is fondly remembered not only as a high watermark for the fast Clio, but for hot hatches in general.
This bespoilered black example has, since 2018, been in the care of a car enthusiast who describes himself as a mechanically sympathetic driver who makes sure that the car is fully warmed through before exercising it fully.
The full service history, much of it with Renault main dealers, and the other maintenance records show that it’s been extremely well cared for. And with a modest-for-its-age mileage of just 64k miles, it will have plenty of life left in it yet.
So if you you’re looking for well cared for and affordable hot hatch, then look no further.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
• The black exterior is matched to a black and grey cloth interior with the headrests embroidered with the Renault Sport logo and a leather-covered steering wheel with a red centre marker
• The condition of the interior is generally very good and a thorough valet should bring it up nicely
• The seats show minimal wear and the steering wheel is in remarkably good condition for a Clio
• There’s a smattering of mod cons, too, with cruise control, air conditioning, a CD player and an aux-in socket
• The seller reports that everything works just as it should
• In the back, the boot area looks tidy and the parcel shelf is in place
𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
• Finished in black with black wheels, it’s quite stealthy and could easily fly under the radar
• Red brake callipers adding a welcome dab of colour
• The paintwork is in generally good order and reportedly polishes up well but the front of the car does show some stone chipping, which one would expect on a car of this age and colour
• The wheels were fully refurbished in summer 2023 and all remain pristine with the exception of the nearside rear which has been touched up after some kerbing, though is only really noticeable on close inspection
• Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 215/45 R17 Y (91) with approx. 4mm left on front, 6mm left on back and no damage reported to any of them
• There is a scratch on the nearside headlamp unit which looks to be cosmetic only
• If you look closely, you may note that the front bumper sits slightly away from the body, something which has been checked by Renault Watford and is said to be all fine and safe and a common characteristic of these cars
• The underside looks to be in good order for the car’s age
𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹
• F4R 1998cc naturally aspirated inline 4 producing 200PS (197hp), hence the name
• Front wheel drive
• Six-speed manual gearbox
• Aftermarket exhaust fitted, believed to be a Milltek (fitted by a previous owner) which reportedly sounds incredible
• 19mm KTR Hubcentric Spacer & Bolt Kit from K-Tec fitted on the rear Aug 2023, which can be easily removed if desired
• The cam belt and water pump were replaced in 2018; the cautious may consider replacing them again imminently
• The seller, a serial performance car owner and someone who describes himself as a mechanically sympathetic driver, tells us that he’s only ever put in high octane fuel and that he is very careful to warm the car thoroughly before extending it
• Renault Watford, the main dealer responsible for the recent services, reportedly think that it’s one of the best examples of the 200 that they have ever seen
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆
Given where the new car market is now, most of us will look back fondly on the Renault Sport Clio 200. Our advice is to get in there now if you want a nice one; while they sold well, examples in this condition will become increasingly rare.
