𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
Alpina’s unique take on its-now-parent-company’s inventory has always been based on a consistent set of values, even if the end products vary according to the characteristics of the base model. Essentially, they take BMWs and apply their own set of aesthetics inside and out, and tailor the dynamics for fast road driving.
This means higher quality trim inside, a road-biased suspension set up, Alpina’s Switch-tronic transmission and, typically, ungodly torque figures like the one we see here. In all it adds up to a discreet but very effective ground coverer that cossets its occupants while keeping the driver entertained.
The F30 D3 Biturbo is a consummate mile-muncher, as demonstrated by the fact that this example covered no fewer than 96,000 miles in the first four years from when its first owner got quite the Christmas present in 2013, registering it on 23 December. The fact that it’s diesel means that it won’t have been interrupted by too many visits to filling stations either.
The rate of accumulation of mileage has slowed considerably since that initial period and it’s presented in lovely condition with a small scuff to the front bumper the only real sign of its age and mileage. It’s a real sleeper in this colour combination and probably only those in the know will spot it for what it is, but you can always buy yourself a full set of Alpina stripes if you want to shout about it.
In all, it’s comfortable, practical, economical and hugely fast. Oh, and it sounds great too, thanks to the (standard) Akrapovič exhaust. We’ll be quite jealous of the next owner.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
• The F30 interior is a great place to start if you’re building a luxurious saloon as it’s well thought out, nicely put together and has the convenience of iDrive
• Here it’s enhanced with Alpina’s blue-faced dials, multi-function steering wheel with Switch-tronic buttons and wood trim
• The black leather Alpina-branded upholstery shows very little wear for its age and the mileage covered and the front seats are heated
• A build plaque showing that it’s car number 29
• Floor mats have Alpina roundels
• Tidy boot with original BMW accessories stored in the cubby hole underneath
• Overall, it’s a step up over the BMW offering and the quality shows through in the lack of wear
𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
• Presented in black and absent the full Alpina regalia, it’s quite the stealth machine
• There are badges on the rear and quad tailpipes, the distinctive Alpina wheels and the badge on the lower front bumper will give the game away to enthusiasts, but it should go largely unnoticed by the average member of the public
• The bodywork all appears to be straight and the paintwork in good order, aside from a scuff to the offside front valance which shouldn’t prove too hard to have painted
• The 19-inch wheels are all in good order and wear Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres all round, which the owner tells us have good tread
• Blue Alpina brake callipers lurk behind the wheels for those paying attention
• The underside looks clean with just a little surface corrosion
• In summary, it’s looking in very good condition for its age and mileage and a quick trip to a paintshop should see the front valance looking as good as new
𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹
• 2993cc straight six diesel with twin turbos
• Rated at 350hp, over 500 lb ft of torque and over 50mpg
• Switch-tronic automatic gearbox
• Limited slip differential
• Alpina-tuned suspension
• Under bonnet strut brace
• There is a comprehensive service history shown on the onboard computer, though the amber colour of the OK against the last service shows that it was overdue on time, if not mileage
• The owner reports that the car starts, stops and drives very well with no unusual noises, just a fabulous sound from the (standard) Akrapovič exhaust
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆
Alpinas have always been beautifully tailored versions of BMWs and the D3 Biturbo is no exception. A tuned diesel engine gives it stunning performance and surprising economy. This car is delightfully discreet, in very good condition and should continue to entertain for years to come.
