Description

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 • 260hp and weight-saving measures provide this Caterham with a power-to-weight ratio to rival a Bugatti Veyron • Six speed sequential gearbox • 0-60mph in sub 3 seconds • Just 2 owners and a little over 5,200 miles from new • A track weapon that can also be road-legal This unique car is located in Northern Ireland. The car will include a 12-month MOT. The seller will ensure all MOT costs are covered as part of the sale.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 Now that we’re at that stage in the year where there’s at least a small chance that wherever you are in the UK there will have been two consecutive days without rain, many of us will be turning our thoughts to hitting the track. Well, if you’re so minded then the Caterham Superlight R500 is a track car Top Trumps joker. The ‘500’ in the name refers to bhp/ ton, a figure comfortably exceeded by this 2-litre Ford Duratec-engined car. The 260hp engine sits in an even-lighter-than usual chassis with thinner gauge aluminium for the body panels and carbon fibre for the dash, nose cone and front and rear wings. This all adds up to a power to weight ratio that is, remarkably, better than a Bugatti Veyron. There is also a sequential six-speed gearbox to heighten the intensity and deliver you the quickest possible lap times. 0-60mph is achieved in less than three seconds. In short, it’s a track monster. Although not an option that the current owner has taken, it can also be used on the road. There’s a windscreen and a full set of weather gear and, when in possession of an MOT, it’s even ULEZ compliant, though it’s fair to say that central London is not its natural habitat. No, you’ll be much more at home on the circuits, hill climbs and sprint tracks of the UK and indeed Europe, where its considerable performance will provide the ultimate dopamine hit. They say that the Caterham bug bites hard and, with a new 420 Cup car on order from Caterham, that seems true of the current owner. Whether you’re an existing owner looking for an upgrade or new to the fold, this brightly coloured and carbon-adorned, barely tamed race car looks like a fabulous way to make the most of your time on track.

𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 • Registered 18 Sep 2009 • In current ownership since Feb 2016 when it was bought direct from Caterham • Original handbook and service records • Two immobiliser fobs; keys being a bit heavy, there’s just a fob and a start button • A 12-month MOT will be included • The owner tells us that the car has never suffered any accident damage in his ownership • HPI clear • ULEZ compliant

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 • The interior is completely original which is to say minimalist and completely focused on the driving experience • Mounted in the carbon fibre dashboard is a Stack instrument panel, which does show some missing pixels, and a set of shift lights above • Quick release Momo steering wheel to aid entry and exit • Caterham-branded bucket seats and four-point harnesses • FIA-homologated roll bar • The owner reports that everything works • A full set of weather gear is provided including a windscreen with wipers, hood and side doors

𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 • Finished in an eye-catching shade of Orange, and a carbon-fetishists wet dream, it’s quite clear even to a lay person that this is something very special indeed • The panels are straight and the paintwork is in great shape throughout, with just a few stone chips on the rear arches and a small dimple on the rear panel • On the exhaust is a heat blemish mark, but it doesn’t detract from the car’s overall appearance • The dinky, metallic grey painted 13 inch wheels are largely blemish-free and wear Avon ZZR track tyres all round, though the owner notes that, perhaps unsurprisingly, the rears will need replacing soon • Overall, it’s in great condition

𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 • 1998cc Ford Duratec engine in 260hp state of tune • Six-speed sequential gearbox • Rear wheel drive, obviously • Superlight by name and super light by nature, it weighs a little over 500kg • Decat exhaust fitted with original catalyst-equipped pipe also supplied • A track day airbox is also fitted, original supplied • The car has recently had a new battery fitted and starts first time • The owner describes the noise as “awesome” and says that the car pulls like a train, helped by the sequential gearbox • There are no reported mechanical issues and is said to drive perfectly

𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 Well, what’s not to love? It’s the legendary Seven, taken to an incredible level and presented in great condition. If you want the ultimate track day adrenaline rush then there’s going to be little to better this, plus you could take it on the road too!
