𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
The original Mini Cooper S of the 1960s added sporting performance to a car which had quickly become both a sales success and a style icon. A bog standard 850cc Mini managed to wheeze its way to somewhere in the region of 30hp, while the 1275cc Cooper S spec engine brought that up to a whopping 75hp. So imagine the look of sheer incredulity you’d get if you told a flat-cap-wearing Mini driver of yesteryear that their Cooper S would be able to spool up to 200hp in 2005.
This particular Mini benefits from low mileage — only 62k in 19 years — and we’re told it has always been stored in a garage since the current owner bought the car in 2008. This has kept the bright red paint looking fresh, and the classic chrome trim retains a good shine as well.
The John Cooper Works kit included a redesigned supercharger pulley to add a few extra horsepower, as well as a free flowing exhaust, a gas-flowed cylinder head, uprated spark plugs, an improved intake system, more powerful fuel injectors, and a remapped ECU. All this makes the JCW a rorty little car. So if you’re looking for a touch of retro cool which still packs a powerful punch, then this supercharged Mini Cooper will go a long way towards satisfying your driving desires.

There’s something about the combination of their happy retro styling and proper modern petrol-driven performance which sparks that childish excitement inside all of us.
