Description

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 ● Attractively wrapped and expertly tuned example of the rare Impreza by Cosworth. 1 of only 75 cars produced ● 449hp and 435 lb ft of torque ● Just 2 owners from new ● Comprehensive history ● Lovely condition 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 When Subaru launched its tuned Impreza hatchback in partnership with Cosworth in 2010, it was available in just three understated colours: black, grey and silver. While that helped it to fly under the radar, those of a more extrovert disposition probably craved something a little more eye-catching and this originally silver car has had two wraps in its life: first in a metallic purple and now in the colour scheme that you see here, an electric sunset yellow. Whether or not you’d keep the wrap, you should find much to enthuse over underneath it. The Impreza STI Type Cs, to give it its full name, features a Cosworth-tuned version of Subaru’s 2.5-litre flat four which is rated at 400hp and has a chassis tuned to match with Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers. The makeover also extended to uprated 6 pot brakes, a titanium exhaust and some aesthetic tweaks that will entertain nerdy car spotters everywhere. This example received a brand new replacement engine (apparently the last one officially produced) at 49,600 miles and has seen further work from Subaru mapping guru Bob Rawle, adding 10% to the power output and reportedly reducing the amount of turbo lag exhibited by the original tune. The mileage now stands at 87k and is supported by a comprehensive history which shows a huge amount of care and attention has gone into preserving this car in the lovely condition in which it can be seen today. Shown by the interior plaque as number 47 of just 75 examples produced, it’s both rare and desirable and would be admired by Subaru enthusiasts the world over. 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ● Registered 5 May 2011 ● Two owners from new; in possession of current keeper since 2012 ● Full document pack ● Service book stamped until available space ran out; the car comes with all invoices relating to servicing and maintenance ● The stamps and invoices show the following services: Jun 2011 @982 miles, Mar 2012 @4,634 miles, Aug 2012 @11,719 miles, Jan 2013 @17,974 miles, Jul 2013 @22,157 miles, Nov 2013 @27,621 miles, Jun 2014 @32,741 miles, Dec 2014 @37,598 miles, June 20150 @41,180 miles, Dec 2015 @45,942 miles, Feb 2017 @47,824 miles, Jul 2017 @53,259 miles, Mar 2018 @61,064 miles, Dec 2018 @71,419 miles, Dec 2019 @79,113 miles, Feb 2022 @83,770 miles, Feb 2023 @85,792 miles, Dec 2023 @86,839 miles ● Replacement engine and new clutch Jan 2017 @46,900 miles ● Rear shocks rebuilt Oct 2017 ● July 2019 saw the installation of a Roger Clarke Motorsport exhaust manifold with a white ceramic coating ● New auxiliary belt Sep 2023 ● Two keys ● Current MOT with no advisories expires 23 Feb 2025 ● HPI clear ● ULEZ compliant 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 ● Step inside over the Cosworth STI kickplate and you’ll find one way that Subaru managed to justify a £50k asking price for this car when it was new in 2010: a leather and alcantara interior with white stitching, and the name of the iconic engine builder embroidered into the headrests ● There’s a little patina to the upholstery but in general, it’s worn very well ● The interior makeover also extended to unique dashboard inlays, a numbered plaque and Cosworth mats, all of which are present and correct, though the mats would benefit from a valeter’s attention ● The previous owner fitted a touchscreen DAB radio with reversing camera and uprated the audio to include a subwoofer in the boot ● Talking of the boot, it’s all clean and tidy and the retractable blind is in place ● The headlining looks to be unmarked and free from any sagging ● In all, it’s very well preserved and with a useful update to the in car tech 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 ● As you’ll see when you open the doors, this car was originally silver but it’s now wrapped in electric sunset satin yellow which reportedly looks stunning, especially in the sunlight ● The yellow is offset against a carbon fibre effect on the bonnet scoop, mirrors and rear spoilers ● There’s reportedly a small blemish on the bonnet which has been there since the owner purchased the car and when the previous purple wrap was removed, it resulted in some paint lifting off near the exhaust on one side; this was repainted prior to the yellow wrap being applied ● The grey painted alloys show some minor scuffs and there is some paint bubbling on the centre of the rear nearside wheel ● As well as being a car that you won’t lose in a car park, it has a brilliant stance that bristles with understated aggression ● Rally-style mudflaps and quad exhausts also add to the visual appeal of what those in the know will recognise as a very special car 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 ● 2457cc turbocharged flat four which was replaced with a brand new unit in 2017 when the original had covered 49,600 miles ● The engine was originally rated at 400hp but here has reportedly been tuned to 449hp/ 435lb ft by the well known Subaru tuner Bob Rawle ● The owner reports that the tune also produces a more linear power delivery and helps to mitigate the turbo lag that was present in the engine’s original state ● Six-speed manual gearbox and symmetrical four wheel drive, naturally ● SI drive with 3 modes ● Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) which allows the front:rear torque split to be adjusted ● AP Racing six pot front callipers came as standard on the Type Cs ● The owner describes electric acceleration and incredible overtaking capacity accompanied by the trademark deep burble from the titanium exhaust system and also notes on a practical level that it averages (remarkably) over 30mpg when run on 99RON fuel as it has been during his tenure 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 To our eyes this Cosworth Impreza looks fantastic in its yellow wrap but the beauty of wrapping is that if you don’t like it, then you can always take it off. And indeed, apply another one. But put to one side for a moment the way this car looks. Underneath is a rare and achingly cool version of the iconic Impreza STI in a state of tune that will make it an incredible ground coverer. Rarity and desirability mean that it should always hold its value and so it’s a car that you can fully enjoy. Whatever colour you choose for it.
