𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

It’s well established that people love their classic Defenders, so much so that they lavish the kind of money and attention on them that is well beyond that most people would put aside for their treasured pets or loved ones. Witness the rise of numerous outfits that will take your Defender and tailor it according to your every whim. One such organisation is Bespoke, based in Yorkshire, who offer a full range of interior and exterior styling makeovers, as well as a raft of performance and handling enhancements. Much like modern MINIs, no two appear to be alike, though this one must surely be an unusual combination of options, being a double cab. Built in 2014, we’re not quite sure when it was treated to the attentions of Bespoke as the owner, the jammy so and so, reportedly won it in a competition. But according to the JLR digital service record, it was serviced at Bespoke in 2021 so we reckon that it was probably around then. As to the exact specification, well that will have been down to the owner at the time, but it appears to include many of the Bespoke offerings including a performance and handling upgrade, a full interior retrim and numerous exterior styling tweaks, even down to Bespoke hinges. The combined effect adds up to something very special and yet also eminently practical with four seats and a flat covered load area out the back. And of course, while its off-road capabilities will inevitably be compromised by some of the changes, it’ll still be more prepared than most when the going gets rough. Indeed, it’s a vehicle with so many applications that there’s surely a man maths case to be made for it on any number of levels.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿

● The owner tells us that he’s had the car valeted every month during his ownership and it certainly shows in the condition of the cabin ● Bespoke seem to have given it the full makeover with quilted leather Bespoke seats, suede headlining, leather covered dashboard, Bespoke steering wheel and a large cubby box ● The number of hours of work that must have gone into the car is apparent from the amount of hand-stitched leather that adorns it and even the carpet mats are Bespoke-branded ● A look under the carpets shows that extra sound deadening has been applied ● The tech has also been fully upgraded with a Bespoke audio system and Kenwood sat nav ● A plaque marks it out as build number 229 ● The rear load bed is protected by a heavy duty tonneau cover which also covers the spare wheel ● The load area looks to be fully ruggedised with lashing eyes provided to secure your shopping ● Overall, it’s a great combination of luxury and practicality

𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿

● Resplendent in metallic grey paint and with 18-inch Bespoke wheels wearing chunky BF Goodrich tyres, it’s quite an imposing presence ● Look closely, and you’ll see further evidence of Bespoke’s work, not least as their name is emblazoned over the front of the bonnet, to make it clear that you’re looking at something out of the ordinary ● Premium chequer plating in black provides additional protection as well as a visual lift, the side steps are Bespoke items and both the lights have all been upgraded to LED items ● The roof is also painted black for further contrast and there are Bespoke aluminium hinges installed which have a level of engineering not seen in the originals, as well they should for £2,750 ● Condition-wise, there appears to be no scratches, bumps or scrapes and the wheels are immaculate ● There are a couple of small areas of corrosion – it is a Defender, after all – but nothing that looks like anything too concerning ● The underside is notably clean and doesn’t seem to have seen much in the way of off-road action ● A chunky rear tow bar is installed ● In all, it’s quite a thing to behold and is in very good order

𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹

● 2.2 litre ‘Puma’ turbodiesel engine with Bespoke Stage 1 performance enhancement that, according to the Bespoke brochure, adds 50hp and 295 lb ft of torque to the standard ● Six speed manual gearbox ● The Bilstein dampers and other hardware on display demonstrate that this car is the recipient of the Bespoke Dynamic Handling pack ● The owner reports that it’s been garaged stored in his tenure and starts first time ● He describes it as an ‘absolutely stunning vehicle’
