𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

• Road-legal NC MX-5 RC 2.0-litre Sport prepared for track use, supplied with Brian James trailer • MeisterR ClubRace Coilovers and upgraded brakes • Pipercross induction kit • Bucket seats and four-point harnesses • Ready to go for track day season or could be used as the basis for an MX-5 race car 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 If you’re looking for a track car on a budget, then the NC MX-5 is a great place to start. Rear wheel drive, nimble, snickety gearshift and equipped with a limited slip differential as standard when specified with the 2.0-litre engine, it’s got all the right ingredients and is available for sensible money. Even better is when you can find one, like this, that has been track-prepared. Although, in this case, it’s also been kept thoroughly road-usable and comes with an advisory-free MOT. Thanks to the inherent rightness of the base car, there’s not too much to do to make it track-ready, and this car has the essentials taken care of. Seats, harnesses, a steering wheel and a roll bar have been installed in the cabin, there’s a Pipercross induction kit to breathe a little more fire into the engine, coilovers to enhance the handling and uprated brakes that have been recently overhauled to make sure that there’s enough stop to match the go. In all, it’s ready to hit the track. But whether to drive or trailer to the circuit? Well, that’s taken care of too. This being the folding hard-top variant of the MX-5, there’s the option to drive in relative comfort but the owner is also including a Brian James trailer as part of the deal. Recently serviced by Rothwell Trailers, the trailer may not look quite as shiny as the car but should be a reliable accompaniment. So there you have it, everything you need to get out on track, and the ability to use the car on the road and the trailer for any other guilty pleasures you might have in the garage. If that’s not a head and heart decision, then we may have to revoke your man maths qualifications.

𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

• MX-5 registered 30 Jul 2007 • It’s been with the current owner for a year and he bought the Brian James Club trailer to go with it “just in case” • During that time, it’s done numerous track days and has been taken out on the road whenever possible, covering 11k miles since purchase • The Mazda digital service record shows the following services: PDI Jul 2007, Aug 2008 @9,950 miles, Aug 2009 @30,361 miles, Jul 2011 @68,831 miles, Jan 2012 @81,796 miles, Jan 2013 @100,098 miles, Jan 2014 @114,322 miles • There’s a folder of invoices that reportedly contains invoices for any major work • The owner tells us that he’s improved the car where possible, using OEM parts or better • Recent work includes a brake overhaul including new guide pins, seal sets and a lick of paint, a Pipercross induction kit (a regulation part for Miata Trophy et al) and oil and filter changes every 3,000 miles or 2 track days (Millers Competition Oil, K&N Gold filter) • The trailer was also serviced at Rothwell Trailers around five months ago • The MX-5 has a current MOT with no advisories which expires 27 Jul 2024 • V5 present in owner’s name • HPI clear • London ULEZ compliant

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿

• In keeping with the car’s “usable on the road and ready for track days” approach, the cabin is not fully stripped out, retaining its carpets and stereo, but there is a pair of Cobra Monaco Pro Bucket Seats which are in date until 2024 and TRS four-point harnesses • There’s also a half cage/ roll bar and OMP detachable steering wheel, with the horn button relocated to the centre console • The owner reports that everything works bar the switch for the heated seats as, sadly, he wasn’t able to source heated race seats! • As is to be expected at this age and mileage, the carpet shows some wear in the driver’s footwell, but the remainder of the interior has worn remarkably well • Being a much later addition, the seats are in excellent condition, as are the harnesses • The boot lid shows a little corrosion but the boot area itself still looks neat and tidy • In all, it looks to be both track-ready, and also very road usable, with the folding hard top providing great adaptability to the Great British weather

𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿

• Finished in metallic grey with black wheels, it presents smartly for a track car; you certainly wouldn’t get any funny looks turning up to the supermarket in it • Look closer and you’ll see a small dent on the offside front wing and a few marks here and there, which the owner insists all predate his ownership • The powered retractable hard top works without issue and makes it a viable daily • To our eyes, the stance on the coilover suspension is spot on • The wheels fitted don’t appear to show any significant marks and they’re fitted with Nankang NS-2R Semi Slick tyres all round • A spare set of wheels with Michelin Alpin5 wet tyres is also provided • The underside is said to be free from corrosion, having had the rear inner sills replaced by a reputable garage for a previous owner and underseal applied • Simpson FIA Compliant Tow Straps are fitted front and rear • The car is supplied with a genuine Mazda outdoor car cover • The Brian James Club trailer comes with long and short ramps and a tilt bed with winch • The owner advises that if the winch is to be used regularly, the ratchet could do with replacing but says that the winch functions just fine at present • Though it shows some slight surface corrosion, following a service from the manufacturer, the trailer should provide years more service

𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 • 2.0-litre MZR LF-VE (aka the Ford Duratec) • Factory 6 Speed Gearbox • Rear wheel drive, with factory limited slip differential • MeisterR Club Race Coilovers • PBS ProRace brake pads w/ MTEC Grooved Discs • HEL Braided Brake Lines • OBX Racing Sports Exhaust Manifold • Stainless Steel Mid Pipe • Stock Mazda Backbox • A set of spares is supplied, including: K&N Gold Filter w/ 5 litres of oil, Barbarian Racing subframe X-Brace, ducktail rear spoiler, Japspeed adjustable toe arms • The car has reportedly run faultlessly in current ownership, including numerous trackdays, spirited driving and motorway cruising • The owner tells us that it starts perfectly every time, hot or cold, that there is a fantastic Mazda L/Duratec pull between 4k-7k RPM and, although there is slight oil usage, it hasn't changed over the last year/11k miles and there are no leaks or blue smoke • There are no known mechanical issues, having been used twice this year • The brakes are described as phenomenal since overhaul, generally outbraking everything else in the same power/weight bracket • He describes the noise as raucous with a hint of the Mazda waspish-ness • Last set up by Roddisons Motorsport, the most recent track day to test the new brakes was at Donington in Feb 2024 where it reportedly kept up with the MK3 Cup cars and the longest stint at the end of the day was 50mins, only brought to an end by the sun setting

𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 Equipped with the folding hard top roof, kitted out for track use and provided with a trailer and collection of spares, this is a tempting combination. You could either enjoy it as a fantastic and fun daily and/or track car or invest a little to turn it into a full race car. Whichever the next owner chooses, we have a feeling that they’ll be having a ball.
