Overview
The 986 Boxster was a lifesaver for Porsche when it was introduced, going on to be the company’s best-selling product for most of the late ‘90s and early 2000s. And it’s easy to see why: a top speed just a whisker under the 160mph mark, and requiring only 6.2 seconds to hurl itself to 60mph, all wrapped up in a package which added a little driving flair to your morning commute.
This 986 is finished in the very sensible combination of silver paintwork, with a black leather interior. It’s the kind of car which, if parked on a city street, most people would walk past without giving it a second thought. But you know you can jump in, deploy the convertible roof on a warm summer’s evening, and exercise your inner hooligan if the fancy takes. Then when Monday morning comes around again you can park it in the staff car park without raising any eyebrows.
So if suave understatement is your modus operandi - albeit with the comforting knowledge that you have 234hp ready and waiting in the engine mounted amidships - then this low mileage Boxster is certainly worth a bid.

Summary
It’s amazing how well Boxsters of this era have aged. They are totally at home on the road today, and certainly don’t suffer from looking like an old car. And what a huge dose of performance you get for your money: the mid-mounted flat-six is more than adequate, kicking out plenty of horses when you want it to.
We think this Boxster offers a great chance to have some fun without needing to sell the family silver. Yes, there are a couple of minor jobs to be done, but nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age. There’s a reason why this car sold so well when new, and it certainly still holds up well all these years later.
