Overview

By the time this car rolled off the production line in 1993, the Sierra was very much part of Britain’s automotive landscape. But these days there are hardly any left on the road, let alone examples of the desirable four-wheel drive version. And to make things even more interesting, this car is in simply stunning condition.

Most family cars of the early 90s are looking decidedly ropey now, thirty years on. But not this Sierra, with its immaculate original interior and very clean Tasman Blue paintwork. Clearly this car has been cherished. It has been cosseted in its storage and has recently had a large amount spent on mechanical work this year.

Really we should just shut up and let the photos do the talking, because we could spend hours poring over the details. The original ford cassette player, which hasn’t even been stolen, the headlight wipers, the analogue clock, the original alloy wheels. This car’s rise from ordinary mundanity to rare survivor makes it all the more worth adding to your collection.

History and Documentation

  • First registered in January 1993, supplied new by Bryan Brothers of Bristol
  • MOT valid until May 2024
  • Just 31.5k miles on the odometer
  • £2,500 spent on parts and servicing in March 2024
  • Set of original owner’s manuals
  • Original Service Record Assurance Certificate
  • Correspondence and original AA handbook
  • The car even comes with a can of deicer from the 1990s and a pack of ‘Handy Andies’ pocket tissues - modern-day automotive archaeology at its best

Interior

  • Opening the door of this Sierra is like opening a portal straight back to 1993, everything is just so and the car has survived without being subjected to ‘improvements’ by past owners
  • The grey checked velour upholstery is very well preserved, with little sign of use
  • Even the driver’s seat bolsters are hardly touched
  • The carpets and door cards are beautifully presented, clean and tidy
  • The headlining is similarly blemish-free
  • Original Ford cassette player - remarkably it was neither stolen nor replaced during the 1990s car crime epidemic
  • Electric windows front and rear
  • Electric sunroof
  • The dashboard is free from UV damage or cracks
  • Analogue clock alongside a digital calendar display
  • Rear load area spotless
  • The bodywork below the boot floor is beautifully clean
  • Full size spare wheel

Exterior

  • Finished in Tasman Blue paint, which remains in excellent condition
  • The body panels all look straight
  • There is barely a hint of any corrosion to be found
  • One of the wheel arches has a couple of small blemishes
  • Original 15-inch alloy wheels with a matching set of recently fitted Michelin tyres
  • The headlamps, tail lights and indicators all look clear and bright
  • Headlight wipers still present
  • Original fog lights
  • Underneath, the body panels all look supremely well preserved by a layer of stonechip treatment
  • The sill seams are very straight and tidy
  • Overall, the exterior of this Sierra is eat-your-dinner-off-it clean and tidy

Mechanical

  • The 2.9-litre V6 ‘Cologne’ produced 145hp when new
  • This is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox
  • The four-wheel drive system sends 70% of the power to the rear wheels, so it’s still great fun to drive
  • During the car’s extensive recent servicing it was treated to a huge number of new parts
  • This included brake discs, radiator, exhaust, battery, brake hoses, water pump, and many more
  • The engine bay looks clean and tidy for its years
  • Proudly emblazoned on the intake manifold is ‘EFI” - electronic fuel injection - still a novelty in the early 90s

Summary

We could wax on for hours about originality, 90s nostalgia, cassette tapes, velour upholstery, and pristine sills. But the internet’s attention span is mercifully short, so please excuse us while we dig out our VHS tapes of ‘A Touch of Frost’.

By now you’ve probably realised that we rather like this humble Sierra. It’s not going to set any speed records; it’s not going to win any styling competitions. It’s simply unexceptional. Exceptionally unexceptional.
