Overview
If you like choosing something a little different then you’re probably the kind of person who looks at a TVR with more than passing interest. Among the many mass-market options for a powerful coupe, you could have something from Germany, but you’d rather fly the flag for this small British manufacturer. The plucky underdog.
And what a way to stand out from the crowd. This Blackpool-built TVR gets you a powerful straight-six and a lightweight fibreglass body, which combine to produce a fabulous driving experience. There’s even space for a little luggage in the boot, under the one-piece glass tailgate (with its hinges drilled for lightness) and, although you have to live without niceties like ABS or traction control, there is at least air conditioning.
This particular example has extensive service records and was treated to an upgrade to the 4.3 engine in 2010. While it’s probably going to need a bit more love than its German rivals to keep it in tip top condition, there’s much to be said for its uniquely enjoyable proposition.
So here you have a chance to keep our roads interesting by choosing the less obvious option and having a great heap of fun at the same time.
