The Cayman has often been the choice of the enthusiast that is looking for the archetypal Porsche driving experience, without the added size, weight or mostly pointless rear seats of its big brother, the 911. Offering the driver a sonorous, rev-happy flat-six engine, the balance of a mid-engined car and additional practicality thanks to two luggage compartments, it’s easy to see why many say the Cayman is the thinking man’s Porsche.

This example that we have for sale is a 987.1, which boasts the rev-happy and sprightly 2.7-litre flat-six engine, seen by some as the pick of the bunch for those looking for engaging road driving as there is more opportunity to spend time higher in the rev range.

Purchased by the current owner in 2021 and immediately given a Porsche 111-point check by OPC Chester, this Cayman has had only limited mileage added to its odometer in the years since, and has been serviced annually irrespective of its sparing use. Reportedly garaged throughout the seller’s time with the vehicle, it presents in great condition throughout, and would make for a fine addition to any Porsche enthusiast’s collection or driveway.

Interior

• Both the front and rear luggage compartments present very well with minimal wear

• Some small usage marks visible to the stereo surrounds, inner door jamb covers and the gear shifter knob

• Both seats present well with no rips, tears or damage that we can see, though there is some more noticeable wear to the outer driver’s seat bolster, which is commensurate with the car’s age

• There are a smattering of larger marks visible to the inner door jamb on the nearside on the painted area towards the rear of the aperture

• No reported faults

Exterior 

• Resplendent in white, this 987 Cayman presents very well overall, and still looks fantastic to this day - a testament to both careful ownership and Porsche’s timeless design

• The bodywork looks straight throughout, with no noted signs of impact damage, mis-aligned panels or reported accidents

• The paintwork is in very good overall condition, though the bonnet paintwork is significantly ‘flatter’ than the rest of the body, as noted by our photographer

• All four wheels are shod with correct N-rated tyres

• The wheels themselves present well from afar, though there are some areas of bubbling noted around the centre caps on closer inspection

• A fixed rear wing - as per the Cayman R - has been fitted in place of the standard active item

• There are some small usage marks on the door handles, particularly on the driver’s side

• The front end exhibits some light stone chips and wear, as do the mirror caps

• Up-close, there are some larger stone chips noted above the offside fog light

• The offside front bumper splitter displays a large scuff on the inner edge

• We noted some fading to the black plastic surrounding the fog lights

 

Mechanical

• 2.7-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine with 241bhp, sending power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission

• There are no known mechanical modifications to the car

• The seller notes that the car has been maintained irrespective of cost throughout his ownership

• Annual servicing regardless of mileage covered in current ownership

• The seller states that the car drives fantastically, as you’d expect from a Porsche with such low mileage

• There are no reported faults, issues or illuminated warning lights
