Overview

There’s nothing quite like the sound produced by an air-cooled 911. That metallic symphony has delighted drivers and onlookers alike since the 911 was introduced way back in the 1960s, and it remained stubbornly resistant to water cooling until the mid 90s. But purists have always maintained that ‘real’ 911s came from the air-cooled era, and some people just won’t be convinced otherwise.

So if you’re looking for a classic 911, then this Targa-roofed example is very tempting indeed. It’s a 911SC, which — depending on who you ask — may or may not stand for ‘Super Carrera’. And this particular example was built in 1981, as confirmed by the Porsche certificate of authenticity on file, which means it comes with a 198 bhp flat-six engine.

A sizable history folder accompanies the car, along with plenty of original literature and a weighty service manual. It has only had six former keepers, one of whom is said to have kept the car for nearly thirty years: from 1993 until 2022. After the current owner purchased it, they had the car thoroughly serviced by Bristol Classic Car Restorations, with a full ignition overhaul among much other work.

A previous owner had the car resprayed, and its Grand Prix White paint remains in excellent condition throughout, with hardly any signs of use. The white complements the black trim on the spoiler, bumper concertinas, and targa roof, and the black and white theme continues on the interior, with its psychedelic Pasha fabric. So you can relive the best of the early 1980s disco scene as you sink into the well bolstered seats and set course for the nearest twisty B-road.

Summary

This 911 has clearly been very well looked after, and benefited from being kept by one owner for nearly thirty years. Its resprayed paint looks great, and the funky interior fabric is something you don’t see every day. And a reassuringly thick folder contains the car’s extensive history records, so you’ll have plenty of bedtime reading to keep you busy.
