Overview

Apparently, when they announced the Project 7, Jaguar reckoned owners of this limited-edition car would drive them about 2,000-3,000 miles per year. Which is much not by anyone’s standards. But then we look at this particular car and realise that it’s covered less than 2,000 miles… ever. Somehow, in its almost-decade of existence on this planet, the one-and-only owner of this F-Type Project 7 has managed to exercise herculean levels of self restraint by barely driving the car at all.

The seller informs us that they have kept the car in a heated garage, never using it in winter, and never driving it in the rain. So upon close forensic examination, you could be forgiven for thinking that this car has just rolled off the production line. In fact, if we didn’t have any paperwork or documents, we’d probably have to employ some boffins in white lab coats to perform some sort of carbon dating analysis to prove to us that it was built in 2016. Or we could just speak to the seller, who tells us they placed their order for the car in person at Goodwood. And they were lucky to be able to do so, as only 250 were ever built.

But perhaps the most impressive feature of the Project 7 is that it was built at all. In a world of conformity, targets, and business jargon, it’s refreshing to see a car which wasn’t designed for sales. Ian Callum and his design team stuck solidly to their guns and the result is a fabulous piece of engineering, one which prioritises style and performance above all else. To such an extent that it barely even has a roof in the generally accepted definition of the word.

And that’s why we love it. The Project 7 is unashamedly single-minded in its focus. The five litres of supercharged V8 put out more power than any other road-going Jaguar produced, though the inclusion of a pair of Jaguar-branded Bell helmets also points to its suitability for track days. The ‘aero haunch’ is a deliberate and enthusiastic nod to the D-Type of the 1950s, which dominated Le Mans for several years. And there’s enough carbon fibre to remind you that it’s not the 50s any more.

So if you’re looking for something which is genuinely exclusive and exquisite, then you’ll want to place a bid on this Jaguar. This is the kind of opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Summary

We could sit and look at this car all day long. Which is a good thing, because the temptation to jump in and add a few more miles would otherwise be too great. Somehow the owner has managed to avoid driving the car more than a few inches each year, and you could be the one to decide the car’s next chapter: to drive or not to drive, that is the question.
