Overview

Fast Fords have long had a special place in our collective hearts, with enthusiasts pining after every iteration of quicker-than-average car to come out of Ford’s vast global network of factories. Especially so here in Britain, where Ford have been producing cars since 1912, and we’ve come a long way since those early days when lighting was provided by fire and starting handles were still regularly breaking people’s wrists. 

Built nearly a century later, this 2010 Focus RS might as well have crash landed from another planet compared to those early wooden-wheeled Fords. It’s the first of Ford’s hatchbacks to produce over 300 bhp from the factory, with its 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine coupled to a proper six-speed manual gearbox. 

Such an enormous amount of power let loose in a small hatchback might be a recipe for trouble if Ford hadn’t invested so heavily in developing the car’s suspension to handle the performance. But even this wasn’t enough for one of this car’s previous owners, who knew it could do even better. They decided to have a Mountune upgrade kit fitted, which is said to put out 345 bhp. 

This should be enough to get you to 62 mph in 5.4 seconds. Which is handy if you’re late for work. And you get to listen to that five-cylinder engine through the large-bore exhaust as you fire up and pull away at almost the speed of light. A highlight of the modern Fast Ford catalogue, the RS with an officially-approved tuning kit from Mountune is hard to beat.
