Overview

The idea behind Radical and its remarkable roster of racing cars is a simple one: build lightweight sportscars with superbike tech. And it's genius, frankly. Yes, people were shoehorning bike engines into cars way before Radical broke onto the scene in '97 with its iconic Clubsport model, but it was the first company to create a bespoke powertrain system for a superbike-powered sports racer, and it hasn't looked back.

Catering to both club racers and trackday enthusiasts alike, Radical has consistently developed its cars to be exciting, dramatic and incredibly fun to drive whilst remaining excellent value for money, and it's a formula that saw its most popular creation come to fruition in 2002 – the Radical SR3.

A genuine two-seater, road-legal track car, the SR3 spans three generations and continues to be produced today, with this particular 2013 example being a second-gen model (built from 2009 to 2014). Known as the SR3 RS it is wholly intended as a full-on track weapon, with its sister car -  the SL (Street Legal) - being developed for use on the road as well as the track.

The RS saw many improvements over the first generation cars, including the higher power Suzuki Hyabusa K8 engine with fuel injection and dry sump lubrication as standard, improved aerodynamics and the Life Racing ECU that allows owners to download comprehensive engine data for review and trouble shooting. 

The car we have available for auction is chassis #832 and has an option list as long as your arm (which we have listed in its entirety below). Equipped with a fully rebuilt 1500cc, 260bhp engine and Life paddle shift system, this is a bona fide race car that's just itching to hit the track once more.

The trellis chassis SR3 weighs in at less than 600kg, which is about the same as a packet of Wotsits, making for a truly seat of the pants racing experience. Take it from us folks, this is about as much fun as you can have without removing your trousers, as well as a wonderful opportunity to become a part of the strong and passionate Radical community that all help make these cars so damn appealing.

Summary

Radical by name, radical by nature, the SR3 is popular for a reason and this particular example has everything you could possibly need to get you racing. The RS is where astonishing performance meets affordability and you're not going to get anywhere near this level of excitement for the money, so do your inner Ayrton Senna a favour and chuck in a bid because you're not just buying a race car here, but all of the unforgettable experiences that it unlocks as well.
