Overview

Who doesn't love a classic VW camper? Probably the same folks who can't appreciate the vivid natural beauty of Italy's Lake Garda, or who fail to understand the significance of Van Gogh's Starry Night. There's just something so endearing, and indeed alluring, about Volkswagen's Type 2.

It's not just the vehicle itself, but what it represents: freedom. Breaking out from the hum-drum, day to day banality of modern existence. Pushing back against the emails and the meetings, the weekly food shops and the paying of bills. It allows us, nay, encourages us to say no to all of that nonsense, or at least put a pin in it for a while, and set off on an adventure. The trouble is, they can be prone to, how shall we say, certain fits of capriciousness. They can be cantankerous and grumpy. Even the good ones. They have been pootling around since 1950 after all. Not only that but they were built using technology from the 1930s, based as they were - initially at least - on the Beetle.
