Overview
The BBR tuning company has a bit of a reputation in the world of MX-5s. The kind of reputation you can only build by engineering fantastic products which impress people. And when they’re the kind of products that put a smile on people’s faces, then you have all the ingredients for earning people’s respect.
Plenty of BBR engineering has gone into this ND MX-5, including one of their Stage 1 turbo conversions, which brings its power up from the standard 158 bhp to a very impressive 250 horsepower. And given that the MX-5 is so famously fun to drive already, just imagine what an extra lorryload of horses can achieve in this little sportscar.
Other improvements include a BBR exhaust system, Wilwood brakes, lowering springs, and a Whiteline handling kit. The steering column has been replaced to allow adjustability for taller drivers, but otherwise the interior is pretty much standard
All these improvements and adjustments add up to a considerable total amount spent. On top of the base car, previous owners are said to have shelled out over £11,000 in upgrades, which is about half the cost of the car when it was new.
You simply have to drive the car for yourself in order to fully appreciate the extensive engineering work which has gone into making this a brilliant sportscar. And what’s even more impressive is that, looking at it from the outside, you wouldn’t even know. So you can have the most fun in the world as you drive to the shops, without worrying about where to park when you get there.

Summary
There are almost as many ways to modify an MX-5 as there are stars in the sky, but if we really had to choose just one, then this BBR-produced example is pretty much ideal. You get a whole heap of power and performance, but can still fly well under the radar.
