Overview

Ah, the Bentley Continental GT. A name so evocative. So suggestive. The mere mention of this captivating grand tourer brings to mind thoughts of melting down to the French Riviera in absolute luxury with enough power and torque at your right foot to put most other road users firmly in the rear view mirror.

Debuting in 2003 the Continental GT wasn't just a stunning machine, it also saved Bentley's bacon. The first model to be produced under the watchful eye of the Volkswagen Group, the twin turbo W12-engined Continental's importance cannot be overstated. It needed to be typically Bentley, i.e. luxurious and refined, but it also needed to grab people by the scruff of the neck. Spoiler alert: it managed both with aplomb.

Styled by Dirk van Braeckel it was a handsome beast and thanks to that aforementioned and simply sublime W12 engine pushing out over 550bhp it went like a scalded cat to boot. 60mph is dispatched in under five seconds and flat out the Continental GT can hit just shy of 200mph.

There was Bentley before the Continental GT and then there was Bentley after and, perfectly bridging the gap between old and new, the Continental GT has rightfully earned its place among the true greats of the automotive world, not just for what it is but for what it did, and Bentley owe a lot of their current success to this wonderful car.
