Overview

Ah, the World Rally Championship. Not only do we have the WRC to thank for some truly breathtaking motorsport moments (we're looking at you Group B), but we also have to express our heartfelt gratitude for some of the amazing cars it has produced over the years.

There's the sublime Audi Quattro and Ford RS200, the utterly bonkers MG Metro 6R4 and wedge-shaped Lancia Stratos, to name just a few, but for many there's a certain car, driven by a certain Scotsman that sits above all others: the Subaru Impreza.

Indelibly etched into the petrolhead collective consciousness, the Impreza – specifically with its “555” livery and Colin McRae behind the wheel – is rally car royalty. Dominating the championship at the hands of McRae in the '90s (and later Richard Burns in 2001) the Subaru Impreza is one of the most revered and well known cars to ever grace a rally stage.

And that racing success made it a popular choice on the road, too. From its humble beginnings as a rather mundane compact in 1992 the Impreza would enjoy one of the best glow ups the motoring world has ever seen, and today the WRX high performance spec cars are incredibly sought after. And rightly so, because they're bloody brilliant.

Here we have for auction a stunning 2006, second-gen “hawkeye” example of the aforementioned WRX. Not only is the car in excellent condition throughout but it also benefits from Subaru's Prodrive Performance Package (PPP) fitted as an optional extra from new.

What that means is a host of upgrades that turn this Subaru into Impreza plus, with the addition of, amongst other modifications, a remapped ECU, sports cat and backbox and a high flow fuel pump, all of which boost power to 266bhp making for a true road-going rally car experience.

• All electrics, gauges and switchgear work as they should
• Pioneer radio CD player with remote control and removable front panel with storage box

Exterior

• Original and untouched
• Paintwork is in excellent condition for the age of the car with no sign of any fading
• There are a couple of age related stone chips at bumper level and some minor marks on the two coloured wing mirrors but these are only paint scratches, not dents
• The car appears to be damage-free
• 7 spoke 17” alloy wheels are in decent shape with some minor marks and curb rash to note
• The vendor informs us that the tyres (Bridgestones front, Falkens rear) are good but there is an MOT advisory for slight cracking/perishing to both fronts
• Underneath appears clean and free from corrosion aside from some light surface rust to the lower suspension components
• All shut lines appear straight
• Overall, a lovely example

Summary
